holy crud, couponing rocks

Soooo, I have a TON to report about the beauty and fancyness of yesterday's baby blessing, but that will have to wait bc I just got back from...

the best.

couponing.

of.

my.

life.

I'm so addicted! I don't know if I told you this but I get 20-30 copies of the Sunday paper JUST for the inserts bc I'm a hardcore couponer!!!

Let me clairify: its definately NOT bc we're poor {we're so not}, just for a fun way to save $ AND look thrifty AND compete w/ freinds.

So since its Glamma and Queenie's last day here, at 6 AM this morning, I went to Smith's/Albertson's/Walgreens & elbowed like forty other coupon chicks outta my way so I could rock the double coupon day and double up on my catalinas and manufacturers and $1 offs and check out everything I halled home!

60 boxes of cereal
36 diet pringles

100 crystal light mixes

lifetime supply of kotex {not shown}
more toilet paper than the whole state will ever use

Lysol wipes galore
mini rice cakes
tons of eggs for JJWTs protein shakes
bumload of juice boxes
cookies {for ruth}
mandarin oranges
...name something else....
...I'll wait while you think of it...
yes! I also got 100 of those, too!

{this is only half of it}

Ok so it took me 43 transactions and three different checkers. Firstly I went to some grumpy old lady who kepp reading fine print {whatever!} so I finally switched lanes to this zitty teen who was way busy checking out my hot self so just scanned whatever I gave him, lol. THEN I finished up at the self check out.

Price before coupons...$530.56.
Price AFTER coupons? $4.47!

i saved $526.09, or something. And when my $10 rebate comes in the mail I will of MADE $5! Yay!

{no that is not my house. can't you tell? no damask or alleged "vintage" anywhere!!}

who's gonna eat all that food? not you, you probably should donate it to the food pantry so people who are in need can enjoy it. you know clothing the naked and feeding the hungry, that kind of stuff.

kris said...

I have a crush on this blog.

Amelia said...

wow...i love how you've embraced the whole mormon mommy at home thing. you are an inspiration!

Jeannie said...

TAMN,

Do you remember seeing me there? I saved just as much as you did, but then I donated it all to the food bank. I'm worried about you since the twinzies were born. Have your service skills slipped?

*frown smile*

TAMNERS, You are so richteous to be so thrifty...specially when you don't need to be. Now you can totally go blow all the money that you saved on a super poofy twirly skirt and humongous bow for your little girly!!

Brian and Janette said...

Wow! Look at all that processed food. How sad TAMN! I thought for sure you would cared more about yourself than that and grew your own food, made your own bread, raised your own chickens and sewed your own toilet paper. I'm a little disappointed. I mean, saving money is great and all, but we're sposed to be self-reliant too. Just sayin...

Emily Frame said...

i'm so glad someone is blowing the lid on this coupon thing. it scares me.

Brossettelewis said...

TAMN you rock the mo-mom lifestyle. And to think you did this all between nursing sessions for the twins?

Anonymous said...

Oh wow. It just keeps getting better!

Did you buy some of your coupons of Ebay?

Was the checker shocked at the price? Was everyone in line behind you astonished?

Manama mama said...

Is that SCOTT tissue I see, not CHARMIN???????? AAAKKKK--TAMNers CHAFING!??!!??!! You've really let yourself go since the feti arrived... Sad. :(

I just can't wait to see what happens later this week after all the help leaves--should be good :)

Jen said...

Wow, TAMN, you are just so. much. RIGHTEOUSER than EVERYONE ELTSE!

Kemi said...

I LOVE how the couponing report took precedence over the baby blessings.

Priorities... pshaw!

Anonymous said...

I'm so much less righteous than you. :( (Or is it "fewer righteous"?) The only coupons I bother with are the half-off or 40% off ones at JoAnn's and Robert's, or the ones for $4 off a 4-lb jar of Jelly Bellies at Costco. Gotta love jelly beans in bulk -- I just wish I didn't have to share them with my kids.

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE REALLY LIKE THIS BLOG?! I THINK IT IS SO LAME, SORRY BUT MAYBE YOU SHOULD FIND SOMETHING A LITTLE BETTER TO DO WITH YOR TIME. SPEAKING OF WHICH, I AM REALLY WASTING MY TIME COMMENTING!

Fat free Pringles come in the white can with the lavender writing. I also see some chocolate milk in there. They never make that in fat free. I'm on to you.

Okay, "anonymous" is such a shouting frowny person, clearly. How sad for them.

"a fun way to look thrifty and compete with friends." TAMN, are you SURE you are not in my ward???

This blog is brilliant! How you hit the nell on the head every time is beyond me.

Sarah said...

Anonymous, how dare you say such a mean thing to a new mom of twins.

Sarah said...

(Not you, Anonymous. That other Anonymous.)

Anonymous said...

TAMN, can't BELIEVE you just left that old lady alone. How DARE she read the fine print. It's YOUR money (nevermind you aren't actually spending any of it, or, if you are, it isn't even remotely sufficient to give the manufacturer any sort of profit margin, but I digress...). You need to take CHARGE sister! You are such a special and deservant and entitled person that those cereal, wipe, fruit roll up, etc. manfactureres SHOULD be paying you to shop. AND DON'T TAKE ANY CRAP FROM ANYONE THAT STANDS IN YOUR WAY!

Now, after a long day of couponing, go home and prepare a sunday school lesson on the importance of honesty.

Jessica Brown said...

Of all the blogging no-no's this is the ONE I most abhor. Thanks for shedding some light on this crime!

{krista} said...

Can I come shopping with you next time??

Sherry said...

I love this blog. And seriously, what is WITH all the free kotex people get?

YAY for kotex!!!!!!!

Dead. On.

So funny!

Randomly Elly said...

Seriously....please share your secrets!!!! I guess I really need to go get 10 million Sunday's papers.....

AWESOME!!!

Madame Palmkey said...

Promise me you always pronounce coupon "kyew-pon."

Janelle said...

Sadly, my mom used to do this. Literally. We would get about 25 copies of the weekly coupon insert, and we'd go to a few different Safeways and she'd send me and my sister through separate lines, and we'd go on different days sometimes. It can pay off, but to a 16 year old, it was pretty embarrassing.

Shelley said...

TAMN's alter ego, you are so on top of the blogging curve! Just this weekend I took the coupon inserts from my parent's Sunday paper entirely because of the guilt I feel inspired by all the blog coupon bragging I've been reading lately. You are psychic!

Anonymous said...

Like, aren't you afraid of what people might think of you if they see you using coupons? I mean, I know you're not, but people are so gonna think you're poor. Or, even worse, they'll think you're using WIC vouchers. You should really consider what this will do for your hubby's reputation.

Scott and Jillian said...

Oh My Word!! This post was so great. Your couponing skillz would make my husband proud.

And Janelle...it's still embarrassing when you're 28. ;)

The Crash Test Dummy said...

hahahahahahahahah

Oh Tamn! You slay me.

Anonymous said...

Thank goodness you're a couponer and not a WICer...you wouldn't be getting any mony back if you were on WIC.

Cheryl said...

Did you cut and paste this post from my friend? Seriously. Hers was almost identical.

Polly said...

Way to go! Frugality is kind of like travel and sex, in that it's TONS more fun if you can boast about it.

Did you buy any ingredients? I know YOU'RE probably too busy for once-a-month-cooking (what with redecorating your mud-room in black-and-white damask), but are the MiaMaids too busy? YOU'D be serving by allowing THEM to serve. They can fill both your freezers with wholesome casseroles in IKEA containers...casseroles that you'll never eat, 'cause--once you've got T&A strapped into the Escalade--Rio is just minutes away. (Maybe I should refer to them as A&T, instead of T&A.) (I want to call her Olivia, but is it pronounced differently? Al-iv-YEE-uh? Either pronunciation is...darling.)

Tay said...

no one can coupon like you can.

Anonymous said...

too bad you just didn't go to Walmart with your coupons and ads, they honor the prices. You would have had to go inkogkneetoe but you wouldve only gone to one place.

TAMN you are so dead on. Who really could eat 60 boxes of cereal before they expire??? My husband sees these blogs on all of the ppl on my blogroll and then wants to know why I don't coupon. Maybe I'll follow your lead since you've now inspired me. Ha!

PS. "Anonymous" has ants in her Gs or something... who seriously couldn't love this blog!?

Stephanie said...

would you please come to my relief society and give us a lesson on couponing? Our sisters really need a lesson on becoming thrifty and frugal, and you have it down pact. We could sure learn something from you!

Rebecca said...

I'm so glad you're not too embarrassed to post your couponing skills! Coupons rock! Keep this up and you'll be able to post about your debt-free life just six months after JJWT's done with school! No more apartment living for you and your frugal richeous family!!

So do tell...you don't follow the green apron "rules" do you? He's so lame. Are you a fellow PYPer? What's your username? (pinchingyourpennies.com!!!)

haha! You finally tapped into this crazy coupon blogging! simply awesome!

Really, I don't know if I look up to one other person in this world more than you. I seriously stink at coupons, and just look at you.

Eva Aurora said...

I wasn't quite convinced before, but now I can't help but be so excited I can't wait to buy up all the Sunday papers and get all my friends to give me their inserts. I have nothing else to do with my life anyway. Thanks for the inspiration, TAMN. Think of the righteous example you're setting for Alivyiah as a mother in Zion!

Jess said...

Holy Shasta! Nice work!

Lauren said...

I totally knew a girl who would wake up SUPER early Sunday morning and go pick up the extra inserts from the news paper distributor. So unrighteousness for Sunday. You do this the righteous way and pay for 50 copies. You are an inspiration.

PYP said...

Tamn.....you must still have a little pregnancy brain going on, cuz you forgot to post a pic of your RECEET with the total circled in red. No coupon blog brag post is complete without the RECEET.

Little Lovables said...

Words cannot describe the hilarity. I have boycotted coupons.... no coupon wars here!

Do you have a freezer to put all of your extra stuff in?

Diana said...

You have to be kidding me. I'm going to gag. I wanna be like you

Unknown said...

TAMN, this post just doesn't make cents. Why would you, of all the ultra-hot Mormon Mommy bloggers, COUPON? Your parents paid for your house and cars and give you free rain with their credit cards. JJWT's parents are paying for his education. Medicaid and WIC are paying for the twins and your medical care. After he graduates, JJWT will buy whatever you want for the rest of your life. It seems very selfish to make the economy contract for your own entertainment. Couponing??? Say it isn't so. {frownsmile}

Suzette said...

This is the first time I've visited this blog and I can't believe how negative people are on here! I just don't understand why anyone would care what Tamn buys with HER $5! If she wants to pick the raisins out of the raisin bran for a snack and use the flakes for kitty litter, it is her perogative!

Steph said...

I am super impressed with this couponing trip. How long did you have to spend in the store? I laughted so hard at your comments today that I nearly wet my pants! (Strange looks from those that have not given birth)

Jessica W said...

Love it!!!!!!

Chelsea said...

I was wondering when couponing would show up on this blog. Perfection.

MKShelley said...

Is this a joke? Are you making fun of couponing? I sure hope so, because if you're serious about the way you talk about yourself then you are NOT a Mormon that I want to know... self righteous much? I really hope all of this is sarcasm.

Juliet said...

I have read blog posts exactly like this, maybe with less dramatic savings but you didn't scan the reciept and post it on, or detail the exasperated reaction of the husband.

Heart you!
