back2school pt 1

Can you believe sUmMeR is zipping by so fast???

Sad bc of no more tans, but happy bc of boots and sweaters! Soon we say bye-bye to DC :( but hello to Rio and cute hair, so, total mix blessing. So exited to see tons of you so soon!

Excepp now I'm reallllly feeling the pressure bc gotta get Studbucket's back to school shopping done!! but its way hard to keep up on hip trends here bc in DC, everyone eltse just wears black and looks angry, and all the OTHER wive's here that are my BFFs {tribute post to come girls, love you!} and me haven't been home to Zion in a week or two either so we are totally out of the loops. Haven't been to a single boutique all summer can you believe?

Seriously, usually I GIVE this advise, but what are all the other wive's buying their law/med/dental/biz school hubbies for back to school???? Pastels in, pastels out? I would just die if I buy him cargo shorts and a button up and then and he goes and is the only one there still wearing that. It's like last year when one day I didn't pack him a lunch OR give him lunch money and so he starved and I felt like the worse mom...I mean wife...ever! embarassing!

Oh, I'm so all over this! I just dropped my hubby off for his first day of law school, and THIS is what's in:

* fitted shirts with v-necks and borderline girly designs on them
* tight, low-rise, boot-cut jeans so he can't carry a wallet in his pockets any more and he gives it to me to carry in my purse
* cute newsy caps that are sassily-cocked "just so"

For example, his first day my hubby wore a tee with a girl's face singing out of his armpit, a grey newsy cap to match, and of course, those great low-rise Citizens!

... no, really. I'll post a picture, in case you don't believe me, TAMN!

If you send him to school with cupcakes no one will care what he's wearing. Especially if the cupcakes have tiny copies of the DC Temple on top of each one, made out of marzipan! Get cracking!

Kiersten White said...

Just have your brother dress him.

LJ said...

Freudian slip. I mean "Frood."

Sarah said...

That is so hard! Hopefully you won't dress him up like Lynzii's husband. : O

Megan Gery said...

that last line is just killer. i heart you, TAMN!

TAMN, real law/med/dental/biz school gunners like JJWT wear suits and ties to class every day. If he's not dressed like a member of the first presidency how on earth is he ever going to get that way-awesome job so he can make enough money for you two to be to mission presidents before you're 30?

I wouldn't trust any other trends going on in the world- outside of Utah's. Better to stick with whatever the Nordstroms in Orem has in stock! You know, to be safe.

"I felt like the worse mom...I mean wife ever"
GAG.

Ed Hardy Ed Hardy Ed Hardy... duh. It has cool Utah boy written, I mean tattooed, all over it!!

Just don't let him walk out of the house wearing shorts and high socks like I occasionally accidently do. I feel like it's a bad mark against my parenting-I mean-wifely duties! Just remember that what he wears a reflection of YOUR style since we all know guys can't dress themselves unless they're creepily metro or something.

Kirsten said...

... my husband's a little creepily-metro :o/

Wow that is a super tough question. Unfortunately I didn't go to the Lord's university or even any of his back-up institutions like LDS business college or UVSU so i'm probably not qualified to give you any incite on this. I have visited the campus on a few occasions and I was struck by the creepy sameness of everything -- all boys wearing identical polo shirts and cargo shorts, all girls in capris and tight-but-covering-the-shoulder pastel T-shirts. So if I were to go off that, I'd say remember that conformity is how you show your testimony. If he has to skip the first day while you go scout what everyone else wore, well so be it.

Haven't you seen Legally Blonde?? There's some wayhawt girls trying to bag a wayhawt man at school! You better purtect you turf and send him in sweats, sandals with socks and a large t-shirt that hides his 12 pack.

Great news dear, project runway starts this week. HOORAY!!

yes, sometimes the roles of wife and mother just merge into one, don't they?

pretty sure the sandals with socks look is still out...

When I went to the LORDS University. I could totally tell the law/dental/medical students because they all wore braided belts with a penny in their loafers. The ones who didn't wear that stuff were immediately sent to outer darkness....

That's how I knew which missionary to wait for because his leather braided belt was much longer than the others (for tucking sheesh!)

TAMN, I'm off to Zumba class, so I don't have time to give you the 411. I'll have to get back to you later!

MW said...

My favorite line was "everyone eltse just wears black and looks angry." You know that everyone in law/biz/dental/medical school just wears cargo pants and looks stressed. Work on that look, and he'll totally be in the loop!

And I can't wait for your BFFs tribute post!

I totally thought I would want to dress my husband after we got married, but we lived in the Middle East and then had a baby and by then I didn't have any energy left to care. (SAD!) He wore old t-shirts from the student Chemical Engineer society or from his Study Abroad program with long shorts throughout his five years of grad school (year-round, b/c this was sunny California.) But I don't think any of the other engineering students noticed.

P.S. One time I wanted to buy him a men's floral dress shirt which was apparently a hot trend in Amman, Jordan that year, but he let me know he was no floral-wearing sissy, I mean metro.

@Mhana "Conformity is how you show your testimony"

BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL!

I think I'm going to have to hang that on my wall... in vinyl, sparkly lettering (GAG).

ps. i desperately want to know, does angelbabes wear his pink polo collars up or down and does he tuck only one side of his shirt in his vintage washed jeans exposing a vintage like belt?

Totally agree with Kiersten, have your brother help!

Oh my heck, TAMN -- when it comes to fashion for men, you know there's only one rule:

You don't have to be a WASP, just iron like one. So get to work on those snappy creases, pronto!

LOVE Kiersten! Let you're brother dress him! Too funny!

For guys, they need to look perfectly cuwaffed but at the same time, look like they really don't care and it just comes natural for them.

The shirts need to be nice and tight, to show off thier ripped bod, and I second the comments on all the Ed Hardy bedazzled looks..Luv them!

I am really digging a five-o-clock shadow..like all the models have...and I know that it's sinful to have facial hair but if it's only a teeny bit long, you can't really get in trouble..cause you definately DONT want to jepordise the GA postition down the road, when facial hair is way out of style.

Have him get a leather motorcycle jacket to pair with his metro look. It will give him a tough edge.

Oh, and he needs to get the long tight G bottoms, so you don't see his G lines on his thighs since he will be wearing this season's uber-hot skinny jean. It may be hard when it's still 100 degrees in August, but hey- we girls do it year round and it is TOTALLY worth it.."panty lines" are beyond tacky!

Wasn't it just PRICELESS????

Little Lovables said...

oh, if you want TRUE fashin sense, then head over to the Satorialist, cuz he is in the biz and all and travels the world... but i don't know if Utah is ready for it, so plan ahead.

please no ed hardy. it's so miami. and miami is not part of the plan.

Kirsten said...

Uh, oh. Why do I get the feeling that mal and cdan_recipes are talking about me? ;)

My post was supposed to be a joke, although I'll happily confess the reason I read "Seriously, so blessed" can easily be traced to how similar her posts are to many of my own (and abashedly, distressingly so!) Even the name of my blog I changed to reflect that realization. Since leaving Utah, though, I find myself strangely less interested in brag-blogging. Coincidence, I wonder?

My hotbuns started law/med/dental/biz school this week, and his yawner school makes them where biz casual all the time. I'm still working on some creative wayz to infuse some of Zion's latest trends into his wardrobe...any ideez?

Malea said...

Well, whatever you choose, make sure you snap a photo and overprocess it to submit to Hip and Humble in case they decide to publish a newer edition of "Porn for Women".

ps, why haven't you started your own photography business yet?

JJWT is sooo lucky to have a wife/mom like you. My husband isn't so blessed ... he was too busy ironing my shirt for my second day of law school and making me breakfast to notice I forgot to put anythng in the crockpot for dinner tonight. Oops.

Unknown said...

Oh TAMN, I start law school on Monday in the tiniest town in the world, Vermont. PLZ!! I know that the law schools in Provo only have frumpy girls in them (not smart girls that are good enough to get into BYU... nope) so PLZ tell me what you girls in the wives club will be wearing so I can bring some STYLE to the east!!
PS in real life anthro scares me, I accidentally walked into that store once (there was a massive snow storm and I ran into the nearest store...) I looked around and was seriously frightened, and ran back out into the snow death that awaited. I felt safer there.

Ok, you know I all luv TAMN just like the next heathen (that's what not-mormons are, right?) but she is just so fun and creative and adorable all rolled into one and holy bejebus I saw that pro-file and there are really PEOPLE LIKE THAT OUT THERE? And from my home state...I'm scared. Well, we do have the next largest LDS pop. after Utah. Thank goodness I moved to a diffrent state. Do you think TAMN is ever freinds with people who are not LDS? Because I was so thinking about trying Stamp IT UP! And Scrapping. And...um...making my own bread. I wanted to ask her to be BFFs with me but im afraid my husband isnt cute enuff.
