DRASTIC CHANGES!!!!!!!!!!

you guys!

BIG NEWS!!!

I am thinking about chopping my hair off! Seriously! CHOPPING IT ALL OFF! Long hair is the best! But I'm a MOM now and busy and hip and all of that.

And in case you didn't know it's important that when you go from long hair to short hair you say CHOP not CUT to convay drastic!!

I AM SO NERVIOUS! SHOULD I DO IT?????

plz note that by CHOPPING ALL MY HAIR OFF i mean like from mid-back length to shoulder blade length. You know, CRAZY. when i say short i mean still long, just not AS long, not ACTUALLY short.

Geez guys I'm not a DUDE.

It's only ok if you donate to locks of love. That way someone else can benefit from your years of hair pampering. And, for the record, you would look darling with a pixie cut.

Jenna said...

Do. It!

Heidi said...

Seriously so relieved to learn you ain't no dude. (can I say "phew!"?)

If you do be sure to donate to Locks of Lurve! Because that is, like, so charitable. And not haveing hair is so sad. :/

Wendy said...

You totally need to get that super chic super short do that all of the hip and funky Utah moms have.

Melody said...

No way!! Don't be a spinsty and chop it off. That's just for woman that don't care about how they look anymore after they've snagged a guy. It's so dishonest!

MW said...

No! No chopping! Wear it in braids with a denim jumper. That's the mom look you're going for.

Shannon said...

Ha ha ha! This one hits a little too close to home. Guilty. I did CHOP all my hair off after baby number 1 - from mid back to about an inch long pixie. And I did emphasize CHOPPING, not CUTTING. And had a very dramatic reveal post on my blog. Dang it. I hate being called out! lmbo.

Amy said...

Plz... don't! Long is best. Short hair is to old lady. Plus you don't want JJWT to look at you as a mommy... right!?

Stephanie said...

Don't do it!!! You will regret it. I pinky promise!!!!!!!!

Jean said...

Oh, you totally should. I did and I posted before and after pics on my blog, after several posts asking for opinions on "if" I should chop it off.

Parkside View said...

You forgot to post a million pictures of a bunch of famous people with different hairstyles so we could give you more objective advice about what to do. Not to mention, you left out the dilema of how to color your hair when you get it cut (I mean, chopped). How can I make an educated descision without a visual, TAMN?

MandB said...

CHOP IT sister.

Chotz said...

That would be a fun change, but, remember what you said in your Searching Sisters??

'do NOT get a short haircut and/or make your hair one color (BOAR-RING!). Long and multi-colored is your best bet (but, don't bet, it's practically porn).'

... But, you already have an awesome hubby, so do whatever you want!!!! No matter what, you will look so hot.

erica said...

simplify.

the Eggett's said...

so glad you clarified between cut and chop!

martha said...

Def. think you should also you should donate it to locks for love, then you can tell people how chopping your hair was really an act of service.

Tamn! I just finished reading* THE BEAUTY MYTH and it is ~~sO cLeAr~~ that your cot in an obsessive and hopeless cycle built around the attempt to reach an impossible standard of beauty.** Of course you SHOOD. NOT. CUT. YOUR. HAIR!!! Tamners, u r such a ROLL MODEL 4 so many! Don't give in to pear pressures to look like other moms! As Naomi Wolf says (and I am just pairafrzing but I KNOW this is what she ment): young, hip moms r killing themselvs to look like boring-bland-vanilla-oatmill copies of each other!!! CTR and be your cool own self, itsiterra. Does The Plan come in medum, large, or super-size?!?! It comes in EVERY size, even size zero for tiny darling girlz like u!!!

You will totally regret it. You wont be able to put your hair in a punky ponytail when you go to the gym!!! It will be this ugly little knob of hair. GROOOSSSSS.

The Lawlor's said...

Do it! I always had long hair and since I chopped it about 7 years ago I haven't gone back!

chris w said...

You could get the reverse mullet like Kate Gosselin - that seems to be in style (for some reason).

Shannon Dew said...

I say do a cute bob!!! So flattering on everyone!

first off.. it's 'snervous'
scared and nervous at the same time.

been there..

you'll look HOT!

Coco said...

You should totally chop it! I love my super cute "Anime Chic" hair. Just make sure to go to a super good trendy stlist. You don't want some one untalented and mainstream to chop your locks. Go edgy!

Cecily said...

Gosh Tamn, don't go "Britney Spears" on us.

Unknown said...

You should do it, but only if you donate it to "locks of love." That way your short hair will not only be cute and trendy, but it will also be a symbol of your spiritual giving nature!

Shannon said...

I think it would be really hard to wear the BumpIt if it was too short.

Lyanna said...

You may cry, just once, or maybe a few times. I went from mid-boob range hair to a Victoria Beckham do (long in front and pretty short in back). It looked/served me awesomely, but a year later, I'm still no where close to original length *sob*.

If you do, definitely donate your lovely locks though!

Chris said...

Doesn't Ruth have short hair? I'm just saying....

bamatamb said...

TAMN, do I know you?? Seriously? Sometimes I swear you know me and are secretly making fun of me in your posts.... (I could BE Ruth, what with the college degree, the winter wedding, the returned missionary status, the non-cute-decorating skills, yep--I keep the same wreath up all year!, even the YWP! I'm totally corrupting the girls in my ward when I tell them not to get married at 18 or 19...) And now, NOW!, you're going to "chop" your hair...which I just did.(13 inches to Locks of Love...)
It's getting spoooky.

And-if you DO know me, you better hook me up with one of your giveaways!

Anonymous said...

I was so TOTALLY waiting for this post. Congratulations. You're still an evil genius.

dharvey said...

Don't do anything until you blog about this at least 7 times in a row and create an emotional crisis all centered around you, you, you.
Then, post a lot of pics showing how you chopped off at least 3 inches, and you are in total shock, and you alternately sobbed and laughed. Make sure everyone knows that the world basically stops turning when you blog about getting your hair "chopped." XOXO, D.

The Snow Queen said...

YOu better think long and hard about this one. It might affect your eternal salvation. Maybe you and JJWT should consult the bishop... or pray. What would Linzey do?

Muum said...

locks of lurve! do it!

Em said...

tamn, honestly, some original material here. i SO posted this same thing back in april.

The Snow Queen said...

It really isn't that big of a deal Tamn. Cut it all off then you can get extensions if you don't like it. You can't even tell, hardly. I could ask the 33 ladies in my ward that all have them.

Kathryn said...

Does this mean that the time my little sister accidentally gave me a buzz cut turned me into a dude? What will my husband say?

Madame Palmkey said...

Ok the reason mommies wack off their beautiful hair, a symbol of there womanhood is because
1) babies grab at it and tug it
2) they don't have time to maintain it

But your twinners would never grab, they have good motor control and understand physical boundaries, plus I assume Glamma or the miamaids come over every morning so you can get in a good blow dry. Honestly, are you TRYING to become the kind of mommy who wears frumpy jumpers or *ew* MOM JEANS?! Pull it together. Cutting your hair is admitting you'll never be young and hip again and you want something that won't make grey hair obvious.

A-line bob, please!

My mom calls that short "Mormon Mom" haircut that all the church ladies have, the "Relief Society Haircut"...as in, "I will NOT get the Relief Society Haircut!" My friend Kelly, calls it the "I Give Up" haircut...(-;

Anonymous at 12:20--I try never to suppress a generous impulse, so I want you to know how very much I hearted your comment. It was so beautiful (in an individualistic, non-pear-pressured kind of a way.)

Hizzeather said...

Unfortch you can't donate your hair to locks of love because it's been bleached so much...

{gasp}

Did I put you on blast? Soooo sorry, really. {frownsmile}

jdb in AZ said...

My grandma had long hair til she was about 80. This was back in the daze when I thot 40 was ancient! She always wore it up with those way old fashunned tortoise shell combs and nobuddy could tell her hair was long so why should she bother with long hair if nobuddy knew?

Anyhew, if you put your hair up nobuddy can tell just how long it is, but short hair is so much easier to take care of. But you should rilly wait til next summer to chop it cuz you need the longer locks to keep your head warm. Don't want you to freeze in the Utard winter.

Have you asked your husband? Since he's the priesthood leader in your home, shouldn't you obay his wishes?

Jess said...

Okay, I really think you are stealing ideas from this girl that was in my ward...her blog is just about as entertaining as yours...but it's REAL!!

Cultures Salon said...

If you chicken out, just tell people that JJWT 'won't let you' cut your hair. It helps them realize just how much he loves you, and it gives you a great excuse for keeping your hair long.

Jessica said...

TAMN, short hair is for old moms. Plz keep it long! Besides, what happened to growing it way past your boobs? If you cut it, you HAVE to cut it in Victoria Beckham's A-line bob. So chic and original!

Token Asian Friend said...

If you chopped it to upper-mid-back length, and then spiral-curled it, it would spring up above your shoulders. :( Ew. Maybe instead of chopping it, you can add a few more layers...

Jan said...

A natural beauty like you could pull off even the shortest of 'dos. Go really drastic and chop it all! And, yeah, if you donate it to Locks of Love you can brag about it like 4ever!

Brooke said...

Dude? Isn't that word kind of '90's, TAMN?

Jessica said...

Chop it!
I was uber scared to do it too. My hair was almost to my waist and now it's a super sassy A Line bob just like Katherine Heigle on the cover of the August issue of In Style.

James and Tricia Thomas said...

Do it!! Donate it!!! And cut bangs! Or you probabally already have them.

debbie said...

My gay friend has short hair. So does Dick Cheney's gay daughter. And every other gay woman. Just sayin'.

Little GrumpyAngel said...

If it's glamorous and sassy short then go for it. But FYI short hair cut is actually more high maintenance and requires more product to keep it glamorous. If you are a busy Mom then I don't recommend it because if you don't take care of and properly style shoulder-blade length hair you might look like a trailer park dude who needs a haircut or an aging 80's rock star. Just my opinion :-)

Matt and Jennae Porter said...

It's against the plan. How is this even a question?

Anonymous said...

I think it would be a totally selfless/fashionable thing to do if you donate it to a group that helps provide hair to cancer patients and folks with that disease where their hair falls out. Great example of personal service/style. A win/win!

In fact you can encourage the whole ward to do it together. They'll probably make your loverbunz Bishop after.

Besides with shorter hair the twins can't pull it so easily what with both your hands full and their exploring and such.

Tarnation said...

You better ask JJWT. Asking him would be part of the Plan.

Laura said...

You know what comes after a mom hair cut right? Mom Jeans. And I know your like a size negative 0, but even you TAMN couldnt pull it off. Think Jessica Simpson Scandal. Just Sayin! Lurve Ya!

Jeannie said...

You mean you don't already have an A line haircut already?

Oh, one of the bonuses would be even more poundage lost when you weigh in after the HCG diet!

Lisa said...

I asked my stylist if I should cut mine and she said "at what age do women think they have to cut off all their hair and look like a man?" It's NEVER a good time to look like a man/dude! BTW I just cut mine 2 inches in the back and I didn't blog about it so no one even noticed. You must blog about every trim so you get validated.

Carina said...

I think you should organize everyone in your neighborhood to donate together, super huge festive occasion, but when it comes down to CHOP time, back out with copious tears because you're TOO UPSET, even though the people that you rounded up and organized have already cut theirs.
Because if you can get them to do it, it's like you did it anyway!!

Plowgian Page said...

Do it. Your not preggers anymore so its not a hormonal decision or anything, or are you?

Unknown said...

New mom hair is much esier to rat up and backtease when it is shorter. That is why mommies do it- so they can stay poufy while puching strollers with ease!

Anonymous said...

the saddest thing about this is.. i have friends, sisters, and SIL's whos husbands tell them that they "cant" cut their hair! Its such a father/daughter marriage, relationship.. it freaks me out to no end!! CREEPY!

Chelsea said...

Just make sure you leave enough hair to have a big bump at the back of your head. Short haircuts without a bump are frump.

29er said...

NO WAY! I still have long hair at age 43so when I walk my 6 year old to school I still look like and young mom and when I registered my 18 year old for college they thought I was just a super nice sister paying for her little sis!

Brynn said...

People who are saying short hair is gross are obviously not good looking. Bad looking people can not pull of short hair, to be honest they can't pull of long hair either, but at least long hair helps a little.

If your hot enough you can go either way. As for JJWT with your au natural *wink wink* assets I don't think he cares much about the hair.

Little Lovables said...

just as long as it is long enough to do that crazy Utah rat on top without smoothing it... I know, I went to Paul Mitchell IN Provo

Kate said...

I think you should cut it, like, chin length and then get some chunky highlights that are only in colors not found in nature. At least, that's what all the hip, young mothers in MY ward are doing.

k- said...

so what you do is CHOP then take about a million pre-preggers pills & make it a friendly competition with the frumpers in the ward to show them how much faster it regrows. if that fails. there's always extentions in a week.

Trent!? said...

I counsel my wife through this sort of thing all the time. No offense, wife.

Mrs. Clark said...

No, TAMN, no! Look at Kathie Lee Gifford and Jessica Simpson and all the other, cute, hip, chic celebrities! They all have long curly hair! And Marie Osmond's hair is long too. You'll cry for days if you cut it, and then how will you look with puffy red eyes, even if your style is punky and chic?

Shannon @ Lifelong Impressions said...

Short hair usually takes more time to style and more hair cut maintenance. My vote is no!

Girly Girl said...

Like NO Girl...Don't do it!! Don't end up like all those other mom's that cut all their hair off after having babies and than end up frumpy. You are no frumpy mom, Your a hot mama like angelina jolie. BTW Marie Osmonds hair is way to long for her age. Just make sure to cut yours A LITTLE before you get that old. But than again ...You are going to be smokin hot at that age. So never mind what I just said. Love ya! Your BFF
