Hi guys! Hope your weekend was AWESOME. Mine can seriously be summed up in 6 words:
Yay for weddings, boo for boring.
Yesterday we had Sunday dinner at JJWT's fam's which was WAY fun and tasty (splurged and had TWO BITES of desert, bad I know, blame the feti) and got the seriously big news...JJWT's bro is FINALLY engaged!!!
He and Ruth have been dating like a YEAR so we'd basicly all given up hope. So, wedding = YAY! But honestly, I just don't GET her. Hate to judge slash be a downer, but she's going to be apart of our fam, and not that many people read this blog anyway, and it IS my journal, and I DO need help so I'm gonna share...bless her heart, not to judge, I'm worried. HELP!!
Why I call her Red-Flag Ruth:
First of all, they're getting married in the FREEZING COLD winner. Ack!! May-June-July or BUST. And seriously, not a big deal, but she hasn't even HEARD of etsy. Plus, she goes to GREAT CLIPS...gross. She's from a broken home which is weird and sad but mostly weird...no offense, but seriously, who wants to marry a bummer?? And I just think she might be a tad old-fashioned bc poor girl still has a flip-phone. She recycles, she ALWAYS has boring nails and not ONCE in the year they've been dating have I seen her wear hills. Sad. And she served a mission.
On PURPOSE.
STATESIDE.
Plus, their thinking about getting married in a temple BESIDES SALT LAKE and--this is not a joke--they might not even have a reception. And not to be rude but isn't there just something freaky about a girl who gets breast REDUCTION surgery?? Weirder still, SHE'S in law/biz/med/dental and guess what HE'S gonna be?? A TEACHER. It's like they hate prosperity and the Family Proc or something. Guys, she's going to be my twinses AUNT!! Should I say something?? Am I being uptight or is this a prompting???

Prompting!!! ;0
if they don't have a reception, how are you going to show off that cute maternity bridesmaids dress that you designed? (I use the term "bridesmaids dress" loosely because your white dress looks way prettier than the organic potato-sack that she calls an Eco-friendly wedding dress.)
Maybe if you pray really hard for a long time, hold a fast about it, go to the temple at least twice and pray more in the celestial room, read scriptures every morning and ask about Ruth in your prayers, maybe even encourage your brother in law to repent of anything he needs to repent of.... then this coming weekend at Conference i'm sure you'll recieve the revelation about them you'll need to guide them... I mean, Family is Forever right!
Also, She sounds very liberal... She might even be a Democrat! Pray Hard! Like on your knees and in a closet!
You know, I didn't think that she sounded all too bad, until you got to the part where you said that she had a breast reduction surgery. Then, I realized that this girl has some serious issues and will probably set a really bad example for your feti.
You didn't mention if she wears ankle length skirts to church or not, like she's still on the mission. That answer would make or break her in my eyes.
Until she's able to stand on her own two high hills, invite her with your strong example to live vicarelessly through you until she gets the point of life. By the wedding time she might not be an eye rubbing yawner that she is today? If the wedding is this winter you need to work fast though! HTH!
This seriously is a red flag, TAMN. My best friend, bless her heart, didn't half a reception and well...they got divorced a year later. Coincidence? I don't think so! Plus the fact that this girl served a mission (on purpose)would have been the last straw for me, I would have already said something!! But, you aren't like me and all judgy and stuff, which is why you are so blessed I'm sure. Thanx for your example.
Honestly? You need to take this girl under your wing! She needs gidance and direction! Show her all the wonderful things she CAN be! Your an awesome xample! Perhaps you could offer to be the wedding planer?
Aren't they having the reception B4 the wedding so they can focus on the cermony?
Eeeew, she must be, like, so old, too! Is she even still fertile?
Oh! Bonus though! She'll probably be too old to have kids, so your darling babies will get all the attention.
I think this is a good thing for you, TAMN.
Sounds like someone needs a makeover!!!
OMG!!! You're killing me!! This post goes in my top 5 most favorite posts. Honestly, if anyone can save this girl from herself, it's you. Don't hide your talent under a bushell!!! TAMN-ize her STAT!
Oh Tamners, I so feel your pain. I had the same sitch. Except they did have a reception... in the CULTURAL HALL! Ew!
Siriusly, chill. You can always use her in fhe stories as a bad example story. Or as the ULTIMATE before-after! You know you can show her the error of her obviously feminist ways! PROJECT ALERT!
Have you thought about setting him up with Yvette??? It sounds like yer desperate 'nough.
Oh my gosh I am dying of laughter over here!!!!!
So most difinitely a prompting! What ritechous mormon girl would EVER reduce the size of their chest? And NEVER wear hills? UUGH! She so needs your help! Maybe you should let your hubby's brother marry her, just so you can change her, and make her so much better, just like you!
No, No, No...this is all wrong!!! how 'bout WRONG person, WRONG place at the WRONG time, you think about that!? What is up with this one year of dating?!? Everyone knows a great marriage comes from 4 months or less of dating, that keeps the fire alive! A year, what will they talk about, what else is there to get to know of each other....a year, Krazie?!?!? Also did anyone stop to think that maybe while he was wasting an extra 6 -8 months with this girl that possibly your little peas in a pod's REAL aunt passed him by? This is all Wrong, everything shouts it...great clips, if your going there, save a buck and go to Walmart's hair salon, what is cute by having a winter wedding, the huge ugly coats people get to wear over their beautiful dresses? And how old is this Grandma named "RUTH" (really?) anyways, I know a mission is good and all but leave it for the boyz...seriously! And not to even mention coming from a broken home....that just screams "baggage" all over it! If it were me (and believe me if my bro-in-law brought this little train wreck home I would have intervened a long time ago) you need to act quick! you need to realized that once married, Ruth will be with you and your family for all time and eternity...is that what you want? Do your family-in-laws a favor, vote her off the island....and do it quick before the feti's grow too attached!
Sadly, I was Ruth (less the broken home thing and mission.. even now I would kill for a breast redux.. these Ls are killing me!), until a sis-in-law of mine was kind enough to introduce me to pedicures, real hairstyling salons. Make friends, and help her. There are those of us out there that are begging for a little girl time!!!
I am cracking up too- these comments are just as funny as the posting!
Totally a prompting! TG you're so in tuned! It's really best to get these things out in the open before she's part of the fam. How can you just stand by and let a bad egg into the inner circle?
BEST. POST. EVER.
Or, I agree with Amber, at least top 5. Where do you get this stuff??
Poor Christian...sounds like someone needs a mini-personal vaycay.
anyway, Ruth is WAY lucky to have you, TAMN. Talk about an instrument.
Sounds like Christian doesn't get your blog. Relax, Christian and watch your language. Grandmas are reading these comments.
Best. Post. Yet.
you must constantly be "watering your pillow by night" for them. how could your bro do this to YOU of all people.
WOW Tamn! You better watch out for those missionary girls! They will kill you with kindness...and it hurts!
Oh, TAMNers, I understand how you feel, because...I USED TO BE THAT KIND OF GIRL. (Except without the breast reduction and the divorce.) I went on a mission on purpose (stateside), got married in Feb, never had my hair done - everything EW! In fact, I used to paint MY OWN nails. For FUN! But I have a super TAMN-ized sister-n-law who showed me the wunders of overpriced salons, liquid diets, too-expensive clothes paid for on my hubby's credit card, and fro-yos. I am SO MUCH happier now!! This could be a prompting to like, TOADALLY change this girl's life! You are toadally a way cute girl Ammon and Ruth is like all the apostate Lamanites. Or whatever. Hearts!
Just lead her in the right direction. Aren't you SOOO ready for a challenge???
You make me SMILE!!
Thnx
This is so the time for frozen smile and clutch TAMN. You can so get JJWT on your side and break up this little hippie love fest. Frozen smile, clutch, frozen smile, clutch. Crying works to, maybe even over the 'happy' couple's picture. First JJWT has to convince his mom, then you can go to town on this granola chick ruth.
You go girl. Srsly.
You really do have a challenge infront of you. Pray, Fast, Pray. Ponder on the fast. Pray to have your feti fed while you dont eat. And ponder some more. Temple Sq. is a great place to recieve revelation on other people. Just sit between JS and the other prof. statue. Or the pond. You may even get a VISUAL revelation. Just remember, Jesus wants YOU to be his SUNSHINE.
C'mon, TAMN. Your first clue should have been her name. Seriously, that's my great gramma's name.
TAMN, just sing the "Sisters in Zion/Army of Helaman" duet with JJWT for FHE tonight while thinking of dear Ruthy (and how much better you sing the high soprano part than she would. She is probably an ALTO. ICK!). Then pray about it and you will get your answer!
I think you need to be honest with yourself in looking at your in-laws. Sure, JJWT is a catch. Yes, his father paid for all your furniture and the first 6 months rent of your marriage. His mother never misses a homemaking meeting and has the entire downstairs festooned with bees to remind her of something Pres. Hinckley said. But a teacher? Ew. Your bro-in-law has obviously chosen a loser of a career so it isn't really fair to expect an 8-Cow woman like you to fall for him. Be glad he isn't staying in the singles ward to become THAT guy that gives cute 18 year olds the creeps. Even though you'll have the same last name, NOBODY will associate you two couples. Besides, don't you have one of those pioneer/general authority/wealthy mormon family last names that half of Utah county has? Just look mildly confused if someone asks if you're related, and insist that all family pictures have at least one shot of "married before 2008."
MAKEOVER!! I mean, if Ruth is going to be your SISTER you have to help her look like she kind of is. So that means you get to take her shopping and spend all of her money on cute clothes that you know you'll borrow when your 8 months pregnant.
Teach her how to walk in heels becaues your the most amazin at it(besides me-if you saw my last post) especially since you have TWO babies in you throwing you off balance. That never matters.
Tamn... I trust you will do the right thing for JJWT's brother who does... after all, need his eternal salvation, too.
"Temple Square is a great place to receive revelation on other people"
Best comment ever. I hope people appreciate the irony. LOVE IT! Thanks Sadie.
OMG-for-goodness!!!! TAMN, this is basically an answer to your sincerest prayers for a servis opportunity!! She is one of our dearest blessed sisters and just needs some help to come into the light, you know?? Take her out to get pedis, discuss the true things of the gospel, and maybe get her a new phone as a shower gift. You can glam her up! She will be the most rockingest sister-in-law/in-the-gospel ever with your dearest and most charitable help!
TAMN like me you are totally not a judger, BUT this girl needs a reality check! You need to be upfront with her & set some RULES if she is going to marry JJWT's brother, if she refuses threaten that you will find someone way better for him!
NO offense, but if you go on a mission state-side, that is the Lord telling you that you aren't cracked-up to be that much in life. Pretty much all you can do now is get down on your knees and then get to work like Brigham Young says. After all, if there is no makeover, you cannot forever after take responsibility for cool things that she's done. One time, my brother got married to this girl who was SO not as cute as I am, but luckily I gave her spa gift certifs for her shower to MAKE her be cuter.
I got married in the freezing cold winter and I regret it every day of my life.
I know you could totally help her, but I have a feeling that Ruth is Set in Her Ways --being she's old enough to be an RM already. And you really shouldn't be focusing on anything but the feti right now.
I am going all deep here and remembered a YW lesson on how there has to be opposites in all things or something. Like how maybe you wouldn't be so beautiful if there weren't any Ruths around to compare you to. So maybe you have to realize it's part of the plan that she's totally messed up?
We all have trials in life TAMN. She is yours. You can turn your lemon SIL to be into lemonade. I have faith in you.
Hmmm, I think you might have a SERIOUS problem here. So many SUPER frenz (I wish I was HALF as popular as you, TAMN!) are recommending a makeover for "Sherrie" (I just can't even bring myself to call her Ru...never mind)
...But she's an RM! Have you ever tried to do a makeover on an RM? They've been RUINED! They all blabber on about how the LORD gave them a SPIRICHAL makeover, and they forget how SAD they show on the outside! It TOTALLY reflects on their spirichality on the inside because the Eyes are window to the soul. If those eyes are a bit saggy and not enhanced to show their NACHURAL beauty, the girl might just be beyond help! Did you know I knew an RM once (stands for Ruined Matron, if you ask me) who didn't even wear MAKEUP the HOLE time she was on the mishun? Does she not know she is a daughter of God and therefor a PRINCESS?
Well, maybe there is still some hope? There is a test...ask Ru...uh, "Sherrie" if she still has her name tag from the mish. If she says "Hecketh no, I tossed that sucka out cuz it hampered my game," then you know she has a secret desire to be an 8-cow wife.
But if she says, "Oh, I LOVE it, it reminds me of my the best spirichal experiences of my life!"...then you know you'd better pray pretty darn hard that your sad and lonely teacher brother can see that this isn't really a REAL "opportunity" to marry (HF will TOTALLY understand and not call him a menace to society).
I had to vote the worst thing about her was Great Clips because even though you woulda said no (cuz you're a SAHM now, duh!), she should have at least asked you to do her hair since you are going to be raising her feti niece/nephews and she should support your family!!! You'd think a mission would have taught her to be more compassionate.
Um TAMN...every gray cloud has a silver lining.
TWO WORDS: MAKEOVER!!! After that she'll have no choice but to book the Joseph Smith Memorial building for her reception to show off her hotness that you created.
TAMN you HAF HAF HAF to tell us if they are getting married in the Logan temple. Because everyone knows that's the only temple you can get married in during the winter. Cuz that temple is all cute and grey and lookz hott w/ red flowers and black tuxes... So if our little Ruthy is from Cache Valley then it's semi-ok.
But I agree w/ the other sisters on here- MAKEOVER time! I totally know u can do the BESTEST job ever! You can put before & after pix on your blog & also use them as an example for all your YW girls.... HELLO! Then they won't end up sad&liberal&frumpy&flat-chested all for no reason.
U R such a GR-8 example TAMN- INVU!
ugh, listen...I dated my hubby for two years before we got married and everyone thought we were doomed as well, or that we were inactive or summin. Let me tell you it is that much harder to know someone really well before getting married to them. It's so much better to enter an eternal marriage not knowing the real person your marrying. Everyone knows that! If she's so smart why didn't she think of that?
I think they're going to have it really rough the first year...that is if they don't get divorced first.
OMHECK! You have GOT to nip this in the BUD before the wedding!!!!!! Family is so forever and once they are married...you and the FETI are stuck (as long as they follow the plan that is). Good luck though, RM's are sooooo HARD to fix. My roommate is one and i'm always try to be of service and help her and she is soooo not thankful at all!!! Totally ignores me. Wears UGLY flat shoes and NUDE pantyhose with OPEN toed shoes. Blehck!!! Ugly nails, flat hair, long skirts, doesn't even want to get married in the SLC TEMPLE!!! She says PROVO is just fine!!! Always comments in RS so that the teacher looks at us and then gets all offended that i'm on my pink iPhone. Can i help it if get more out of Removem then her lesson? Just keep helping her even if she seems to be offended. You know what's best for her in the long run.
nails=nells.
A member of the 12 (I can't remember who...or maybe it was Oprah) once said that we have to "let our little light shine" or something like that. AND, there's that scripture (can't remember where it is) where Jesus says "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it." SO don't stress, this is your chance to be an instrament...go with JJST and have a hart 2 hart with his Bro. You guys have been married like a year, right? You KNOW all about marriage so you can point out to him the errers of his wayz and save him from messin up the biggest disizion of his life! Good luck!
are you seriously this shallow!? or is it just all in fun and games?
I'm embarrassed that you're a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?! I truly hope that peeps not apart of our faith don't read this post...it would do so much damage for all of us who try so hard to be everyone's friend...yes, even if they go to GreatClips!
I truly hope you grow up- esp. for your twins' sake!...your poor hubby...you've got "high maintenance" written all over this post- poor guy!
LOVE THIS POST! Ruth sounds ewwwww! I am sorry she is going to be in your super CUTE fam. How ANNOYING! I would just ignore her at all the family scrapbook nights and stampin up saturdays!!!
I'd watch out, sounds like u have another BFF coming. Make sure your the 1 changing her, not the other way around.
I think it was Pres Kimball who quote the scripchur that even a barn looks better with a fresh coat of paint. Clearly Sister Ruth needs your help. She will never be as hot as you but since it's true that you marry the family, your obligation, and probly fulfilling your patriotic blessing, is to help her see her need to improve and her role is to accept your help. Rilly TAMN, if there's not an intervention soon, she'll find herself with her own little fetus who has no hope whutsoever of being hot. Speaking of kids, don't let her do the br*&@t reduction, they'll just get big again as she's nursing the brood throughout years of Relief Sucity and then you'll really be busy doing the makeover. And when yur magic is done our new Cinderella can help payit forward and help the unfortunate Yvette.
OMG-for-goodness! I think for her shower, you haf to get her a proc on family, becuz she obviously dosn't get it!!!
Plus also, I love that their are still sum peepul who just dont get this blogs sat-tire!
OMG. This is so a prompting from HF. He srsly wants you to take this poor girl in hand and show her how sweet life can be. First, take your BIL's credit card and book her a totally awesome spa-day, STAT! Or better yet, get your MIL on your side (and how could she not agree??) and have her pay for a full makeover for the both of you. Not that you need a makeover TAMN, but you have to lead the way and show her how it's done. Make sure she gets acryliks with bright white tipz and little rinestonz on them - it'll go so good with her bleeched hair and teeth. Then offer to be her wedding coordinater. I know it's a total trial and a majer inkonveence, but you have to sacrifice if you're going to straigten her out. Think of the majer blessings for you and JJWT! It will all be so worth it when you see her in her 4 inch hills at her Joon wedding. And don't ferget to totally use her as a example of what NOT to do for all your YW. I mean, she went on a mish? Stateside? I'm all frownee now. Ewwwwww.....
I can't believe that everyone is overlooking the real dilemma here! C'mon people! TAMN just ate TWO BITES of dessert and you're all talking weddings, cheap haircuts, and breast reductions! What's wrong with this picture?!?!?
I rilly can't believe that no one has said the obvious! You HAVE to start flirting with JJWT's brother RITE AWAY!! You have to open his eyes to what he's gonna miss by marrying this liberal granola RM. I'm sure JJWT won't mind when you splain what your doing for his brother. Family is forever, and you don't want you'res ruined.
I also rilly can't believe some commenters out there still don't get this.
@ careyttops or Leesie Lou:
LOL.
Seriously? You can read this blog and think it's for reals?
Trust me, people "not part of your faith" read it... and think it's HILARIOUS. I don't think less of Mormons because of it.
She didn't serve on T-Square did she. . . she'd be way hot if she did.
She's a blessing to you girl!!! Talk about PROJECT. You'll have fun helping her fit into the fam. Don't sweat it! Just take out a big magnifying glass and find her good qualities and magnify them more!
If none of that works then just be thankful that you don't have to live with her and see her 24/7.
Of course you're bing prompted!!!! This girl is probably like 24 and everyone (especially BYU bishops) knows that there is something wrong with a girl who is not married by 21. We all know that the GA's don't REALLY mean it when they say that it's great for a girl to serve a mission if she wants to. Better set her on the straight and narrow and make sure she gets highlights before it's too late.
TAMN, I totally feel your pain, but I'm going to go out on a limb here ... maybe there is hope for your future sister in law after all. Maybe the reason they are going for a January wedding is that she cannot possibly wait till May to start nuzzling. This speaks VOLUMES about her personality!
Oh my hilariousness for the cluelessness! TAMN, I think you've outdone yourself on being "over the top" but frankly I'd love to see just how far you could take it and still have people not "get it"!
I find this terrible and hillarious all at the same time!! Maybe you should think of it like this: your bro already has one perfect woman in his life, and so he doesn't need to be as picky? Maybe...?
Maybe you could take her on as a project, and help her into the
21st century. I mean she is going to be your feti's Aunt!
TAMN,
I agree with all thee others who have said MAKEOVER!
But I think you need to take it a step farther. Offer to plan the wedding! It will keep you busy while your gestating, and then you can have control on everything that goes on, and make sure that everything is super cute! I no that a spring/summer wedding is all ways the best, but your so creative that I no you can make this thing fab!
I know that they don't want to have a reception, so may be you can make it a surprise wedding reception!
Plus, sinse this wedding will be in the bittur cold of winter, you could probably get JJWT to buy you some sort of new fur coat, cuz U don't want the babies to freez.
You should also start a scrapbook for them, because she sounds like the type that dosent scrapbook.
These comments are as good as TAMN's post. Carytops or Leesylou (or whatever they are) is hilarious and I love it that she doesn't get it.
I got married in the Ogden Temple in Feb! Sad... That's why I'm always confused. I heard that thing about "painting an old barn" but when I painted an old antique table, the value went WAY down. I'm so lonely.
You're killing me. Best Ever.
Okay, but your post reminded me--i have a little q and a for ya-- is a boob job against the plan???
What would happen when you're resurrected with-- you know-- the original package!!! What about cute teenage tattoos (butterflies on the upper b-u-t-t)-- can you repent of them and not have to get them sanded off?
I know theres like tunz of comments and you prob won't even get to this one, but I just had to say this- and I'm not meaning to be mean or anything but she sounds like a total downer of a SiL (sis-in law) I'm so sorry you have to go endur this trial. Can I bring you dinner? a fat-free pie? Luv ya! (and so does Jesus) ;)
You know, this is probaly all part of the plan, and you probaly promisd to help her in the prexistance. Like I bet you were fordaned to help her. I dont think anything else could explan it. So you just have to remember what you alredy knew so that you can help her better than anyone else in her life.
TAMN
listen to those promptings! Not only will the wedding be super cold (no cute pedi pics for bridesmaids) but that means her anniversary will always be around Christmas! Talk about selfish. She needs to remember you are waiting for gifts for you and your twinsies, and her anniversary is just a distrction. *pleeze*
Baaaaaaaaa ha ha...You grack me up TAMN...and so do all these comments!
You need put a stop to this non-sen-s STAT!
TAMN! Be soo sooo carful when dealing with these kinds of girls. You toootally need to help her, but it can be like waaay dangerous. Did you know some of them think WE need to be helped? Like when I tried to stop my roommie from talking about her way boring STATSIDE mission in Sunday School because she was totally scaring the mens away. They only get to be spirtil when they talk about thier missions and she was stealing their litening! I told her girls don't be spiritul by telling mishin stories-we can be spiritil by glowing! But when I tried to put the bronzr on her, she got waaaaaaaaay mad and was waaaay ungratful! She said I was superficil! Noonz ever called me a mean police offiser befor, and I wasn't being mean! I waz thinking of HER eternal salv!
So it's totally the rigth thing to do, but you might be a marder like Joseph Smith.
OMG (G for gagging of course). I was so Ruth two weeks ago. I had my mission call to South Dakota and had been to Missionary Mall in the P-Town to buy my ugg shoes and ankle length skirts but then when I was standing in the airport I saw a cute girl with newly died hair, red 4 inch hills, and a sassy barely above the knees skirt. I realized it was so wrong for me to go. Now I'm home, teaching relief society, and I have a steady boyfriend who is proposing Saturday! I just sent him the picture of the ring I want and my mom and I bought my dress yesterday. Just be an example TAMN. Shell come around just like me. And one day she will so thank you.
Is that for real?
Ok...So this post is one of my all time favorites! And the comments...wow...totally as funny as TAMN. Thanks for the great entertainment.
Another hilarious post, def one of the best, but it is hard to choose. The comments are also just too funny! I have to admit that occasionally, I worry that I might be struck by lightning for laughing so hard at a few of the comments. I wish I was as rite-chuss as you TAMN!
Personally, I think Ruth is self-centered, having the wedding in Utard in the winter. My "sunny" disposition just doesn't "do" cold whether, and the last time I attended a rellie's winter wedding I just about froze solid. The family's response: "Many are cold but few are frozen." pffft.
In the intrest of keeping all the wedding guests happy, why can't Ruth and your brother-in-law do a destination wedding. There's so many temples in warmer climates, counting two in Hawaii. Those who have trubble flying could always take a cruise ship. Way more fun!
TAMN.
Thanks for this chance to learn patience!
Let me know if you want to borrow my nylons.
I'm with The Parks, two bite of dessert? I hope you walked a 5-kay (wouldn't want to jossle the twins with a run) and did some pilates for pregnant ladies. Seriously.
And AWKWARD that Ruth found your blog, I don't envy you your next Sunday dinner at your in-laws. I guess the ice had to be broken somehow.
Seriously, TAMN, why must you endure such trialz? First of all, she needs a fur realz manicure STAT! Get her bum to a nails joint and get her a full set with flowers on the tips. Next, take her to your stylist and get her a two-tone layered hair job (black underneath and bleach on top). That would be a good start. You can't do anything about the breast redux, stateside mish or broken home. U might just have to overlook that with your Christ-like nonjudge-mental eye. Also her name is Ruth. Gross. Jus call her sumthing more suitable like 'Brittney'.
Well I don't have a clue of who you are. But I will say this. I think it's horrible you went off on her like that on your journal blog. IF she ever read it or heard about it from someone else do you have any idea how that could affect the relationship you probably won't even have with your brother after that? Seriously, too bad because there's no going back at this point and I just hope that doesn't happen for you. I have a sister in law who seriously made some bad calls on me and it has really ruined a lot of relationships in our family. I just think it's sad that not only you thought negativly about her, but you chose to share it with people who don't even know her. I think that's the real bummer here. And for your sake, I hope your twins even have a relationship with their aunt after this fiasco.
And just for the record, I read some of your other comments and I'm disgusted that some of them are even mormons. Mission on purpose? I wish I would have done that, what a great thing to help in so many areas, and who the crap cares where she gets her hair done? Oh, and lets continue on and on about your beautiful soprano voice, alto is ick? That is so sad. Honestly, you and your viewers deserve each other. Sorry I don't have the sense of humor you all share but I just think it's so sad all the things discussed about her. I thought this blog was going to be really fun to read, this is the first post I read and I am just discusted.
Well, perhaps this is just satire, but this one hits way too close to home. I've actually had folks ask why I don't believe in the Family Proclamation, or whether I served a mission (since I was "willingly" attending grad school).
It really makes you stop and say, huh... is she mocking me, or is she giving real proof that people actually think these things about others? Either way, not kind. The rest of the mockery in this site is so over-the-top so as to make it really a hilarious, extreme caricature. This "Ruth" is just too normal to be over-the-top. Might as well throw in that she is a convert and not from Utah, and you'll have completely described my life (and a large number of women I know and love).
Anyway, just my 2 cents. Not my favorite of your posts, which are generally hilarious.
Hahaha! Katie, RUTH is not the one being satirized...it's TAMN's REACTION to Ruth that's funny. Does that help?
One of the best posts yet. And how can people still not get this site?? That's almost as funny as the posts. This always makes my day. Please never stop!
It's OK jenn and tyler. This blog is a joke, it's satire, TAMN is a fictional character created by the blogger. The point is to exaggerate the foibles of Utah Mormon culture to call attention to them so we can think about them and learn to fix them along with releasing the pressure with a good joke. Don't worry, lots of people stumble on this blog and think it's true at first.
TAMN, have you done anything about this Ruth chick since yesterday? You'd better hurry before her blessed wedding steals the spotlight off of you and your twins (but mostly you)! She and JJWT's brother might actually have a happier marriage than you and JJWT if she keeps on in her wayward ways...
Cheri - I realize that the mockery was in TAMN's reaction to "Ruth." I also realize that in describing "Ruth," TAMN is probably just describing her real, non-TAMN self, but that doesn't really make it easier. Its kinda like, people all go around saying, "No one really says those things, no one really says those things," and then you find a blog with WHAM!!! 90 comments of people saying EXACTLY "those things".
Anyway, I didn't want to belabor the point, but my hubby said I ought to remark on the site, since he was kinda off-taken by this post as well.
reeeeelax everybody! TAMN's got a serious problem on her hands and you're worrying about YOURSELVES?? Rally! We gotta help her help Ruth!
EWW!! So judgemental!! I used to ADORE your blog but now I'm really mad. I chose a mission on purpose and I loved it. Breast reduction surgery can be because of back pain- my mother-in-law wants it for that reason- and if you are that gorgeous and with it, then why can't you help her instead of judge her? I'm sure great clips is because it's cheap for people on a budget. Not all of us have 70 bucks to blow on a haircut. Help her and/or cut her some slack!!!
This is ridiculous!!
I thought mormon's didn't put others down? I thought they accepted everyone?!
How about you love the girl for who she is.. you aren't the one marrying her!
I agree with Megz. Let the girl be who she is and for crap's sake LEAVE HER ALONE. She's the way she is ON PURPOSE. I should know. :)
This just gets better and better.
I LOVE YOU TAMN!!
Katie. I agree in a lot of ways with you. I am a bit 'Ruth' as well. The thing is, I HAVE a real-life TAMN in my life. In fact, I think that is why I find this site so hilarious. People DO think and say these things. Which is sad. But when you read TAMN's way-over-the-top blogs, I think it makes it easier to laugh at that kind of backwards-thinking and to realize that they are the ones who are off, not those of us who 'splurge' for a haircut at Great Clips, choose to go on missions, or pursue higher education in a field other than family and home development (and I am totally not putting down anyone in that field!). Thank you TAMN for another laugh.
JJWT's bro is engaged? Is he the one you smooched b4 Blake or after Blake? I'm so confuzed...
P.S. If there are still some angry/worried/disturbed commenters out there you might find it helpful to go to the "Seriously So Blessed in the News" on beneath blog template code and find out a little about the artiste who writes this blog. I think you'll be surprised.
PEOPLE! Everybody needs to chill out. TAMN's blog is something we can all laugh about, because we ALL know people like TAMN. (and it is hard for me to read their over-the-top misspelled blogs) And Ruth is not a real person!! So don't worry that she is going to feel bad about the post, for real. I also went on a mission and I am not offended in the least. I have had people like TAMN that have given me a hard time for going on a mission and also going to college (on purpose). Everyone should know that this is just for FUN! I like the way the author of the blog makes a point to show us how irritating, annoying, and self-centered mormon girls can be. And that is the truth! She is not saying ALL girls are like that, but come on, we all know a handful!
I think the beautiful thing about good satire is that it can help us change. We laugh because it's an over-the-top rendition of things we are familiar with, but it's also an opportunity to examine ourselves and our culture so that we won't actually BECOME the parody. I don't think anyone WANTS to be shallow and unkind, but this is a great way to laugh at ourselves and recognize that we've all had a TAMN moment or two...or three...or fifty.
Love ya TAMNers!
Um, it is like the RS broadcast was MADE for you. Be creative! Maybe start small like inviting her to stamp. Maybe she doesn't know about stuff like that! And then ask her to a makeover party. And then she can buy your stuff and get better. Win-Win!
Oh, my. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. I think all the negative comments are from people who are just jealous they weren't smart enough to come up with something like this. I know I sure am! Keep up the good work, TAMN!
Out of all those red flags, that she hasnt worn hills in the whole year they've dated is thee worst one. Ack. Great clips? boring nells? SAD.
Not even from Utah??? Maybe a convert??? That's r!idiculous. How bad can this get? Heck, maybe she's not even a citizen of this chosen land. Now that would be nuts - you can't risk diluting the family line with something like that...
I'm trying to shut up, but I can't. I'm trying to sleep but can't do that either - tears of laughter are getting in the way.
Ruth. Is. Pretend. So. Is. TAMN. (I think???)
Sweet heavens this is a funny blog. Makes me think I should do a better job teaching about parody/satire, etc. in English class. Yup.
Maybe now I can sleep... G'nite.
Oh yes. This is the kind of TAMN-post that I love love love! TAMN, you need to get this girl in STYLE! Maybe you should take her on a walk through the Gateway and have a spiritual heart to heart with her about getting more in tune with the Fam Proc - maybe she will be inspired to quit school and be a SAHM because of your shinnning example!
Holy moly. Wow, TAMN. You've really outdone yourself here. I read the post, laughed my can off, and the dove into the comments because I KNEW they'd be this great.
For those of you who need it: I'm 29, single, and a master's student at BYU because I want to be. Yes, I've started referring to myself as Spintsy (hysterical). Am I offended? Not in the least. This blog is the funniest thing I have EVER read. Some days, it's the only thing that gets me through the homework.
Thanks TAMN.
I've tried relly hard to hold my tongue (ouch it hurts!). And I was hoping that someone else might point this out, but back when I was dating pre-mishes we always reminded them "The harder you work on your mission, the hotter your future wife will be".
Sounds to me like your BIL didn't work as hard on his mish as JJWT.
And Ruth worked pretty hard on hers (if your BIL really looks like Kirby, chances are she never slept just work work worked!)
Sad.
you guys...SERIOUSLY! Click on the news story on the right. TAMN totally went on a mission! it is all a JOKE! HAHAHA!
haaaaaaaaaa so funny.
WAIT. This blog is F-A-K-E?!?!
TAMN...patience. Once Ruth graduates from law/biz/med/dental school and becomes a true professional, she will realize that it is all about image and there you will be...her new BFF!!!
I. Love. It.
you're kind of a biz.
aaaaaaaand you don't deserve to be "double blessed"
I think there are few people who actually "get it" even though they think they do. And that is what makes this blog solid gold.
Wow, seriously? I don't think TAMN deserves all the negativity, she is just trying to help out her BIL.
Why can't we just laugh at ourselves and the things some of us do? I see no harm in any of this, because I too know girls who are just like TAMN! We all have our TAMN moments, admit it!
bradley, deanna, and donovan: my point exactly.
Funny :) This blog definitely isn't for the oh-so-sensitive.
I think you just passed up my other favorite satirist, Rob Wells. Hmmm. Thinking about it.
And she served a mission.
On PURPOSE.
STATESIDE.
I cannot stop laughing. You are the queen.
Prompting. I was dumped for my "broken home" and serves me right!
Let's say you call a black person the N word and call it satire. Some things are still not appropriate.
Yes, I know people like "Tamn" and even some like "Ruth." You have a serious problem. People of other faiths may stumble on this blog and get the wrong idea and most people don't have the patience to read through 100+ rude comments to find out it's a joke.
If you want to say such rude things keep them to yourself and your snobby friends. Make your blog private so that you don't do any more damage.
You had me going...congratulations...I was fuming for a good 30 minutes. What a let down of a post, you go on saying things that bother you and then end it with a JK. Why not use your blog for something productive and good.
Just when I think I can't love this blog anymore, someone like Eliza comes along and makes me even happier. I love this. Bless you, TAMN and genius-behind-TAMN. Bless you.
I, too, was dumped because of my parents' divorce...gotta love it! Between that and not being able to play with most of the Mormon kids because I was from a "part member" family (Dad's a convert- oh the horrors!), it's pretty obvious why I love the church, but hate LDS "culture". This blog is hilarious because it shows how absolutely stupid people sound when they act so holy. Keep it up!
I think Rissa's comment is right on.
Sure, Ruth is imaginary, and so is TAMN. They are both fictional characters, written by the same person. It's brilliant satire, really. Reminds me a bit of the stories of the Lutherans and Catholics from Lake Wobegone, Minnesota, written by Garrison Keillor.
TAMN has a difficult time with Ruth, because Ruth doesn't conform to TAMN's expectations of how one should look -- and looks are everything to TAMN. She wants to change Ruth, to "fix" her, so that she has an appearance more pleasing to TAMN -- and to TAMN, appearances are most important. She's so concerned with appearance, that when she needs to be seen with her mom, she borrows a friend's "cute" mom, and passes that person off as TAMN's own mom--that's a pretty extreme concern with looks.
I think all of you need to go repent and think twice about all the rude things you have said about this poor girl! Apparently none of you have learned a thing about being judgemental. It sounds like you all need to experience what it is like to be humble without all those needy things of thinking you have to look good 24/7. Who cares where you get your hair done as long as you have a cute style, or that she has never had a pedicure or wheres stupid high heels. Those who date for a longer time know more of what kind of spouse they will have than those who jump on the wagon and get married as fast as they can. Sounds like she is more rounded than the rest of you because of the things she has accomplished and experienced in life for instance a mission comeing from a broken family and having interest in all those different fields. I am ashamed to hear of other members be soo snooty and judging of others, you should take a look in the mirror at your selves!!!!!
I have never laughed so hard in my life. I am crying!
Hi,
I think this post is a very sad indicator of some of the awful truths that this spoof blog exaggerates. It alarms me that a large religious population can associate with this. Satire brings into light the aspects of a topic, in this case, a married Mormon blogging phenomenon, in a different way that can often times be much more accurate than presenting it any differently.
I don't think all Mormons participate in such ignorant intolerance as this post exemplified, but I do worry that younger generations in the Mormon community might be picking up even the slightest behavioral tendencies asssociated with this satire. This blog is revealing and devastating for both the Mormon community and the country in which they live. For many United States citizens come nowhere near to being as distastefully, unintelligently critical of another human being. Granted this sort of slander towards another individual occurs outside the Mormon community as well, I think this reveals a great deal.
In utter sadness that I even spent the time reading or writing any of this,
Signed sincerely,
Kirsten Clauson

Lighten up.
Laugh. At. Yourself.
I know you can do it...
One, two, three....
HAHAHAHA!
Oh-no--you're still upset???
Such a pity. Satire can be so much fun.
I'm sorry you don't get it.
Hi,
I do realize what I wrote had quite a heavy hand. That was the first time I had ever seen this blog and didn't know that it was just a joke- so I was reading this, thinking "How can a person be so shallow?" I was shocked. I was really speechless and sad that someone and all others that responded (whether in on the joke or not) believed that what had been written was okay. Then I read on some more and discovered that this is just a spoof. I was had. I felt pretty dumb getting angry over something fake. I apologize if I've offended anyone, but I was very offended by what I had read.
I get satire and I realize I certainly wasn't lighthearted over this. I was glad to read more of the comments saying that this representation can call attention to this behavior and prevent it. Laughing at ourselves is okay, but changing behavior as harmful as this isn't as easy and takes a bit of work. And until there is a serious calling for it not to be "laughed at" younger kids will carry on the tradition. Laughing at and forgiving ourselves for things such as being forgetful makes sense. But this (this specific post at least) contains material that isn't okay to make fun of to begin with, and doesn't result in funny satire. I am glad attention is being called to it, though.
Sincerely,
Kirsten
Kristen-
No one can make us change but us. However, sometimes we need a catalyst or little reminders and that's the benefit I see in good satire. I mean how much has this one post made us (even if for a moment) think about how we relate to one another? We may not recognize it because humor isn't heavy-handed, but I think at least in the back of everyone's mind, there was some attention paid to these kinds of situations that we often choose not to acknowledge as a culture. What I find most telling is that those who have actually BEEN Ruth found this the funniest. If we can't let go and laugh at a situation in the end (with several notable exceptions), it got the better of us.
Thanks lobbie. I do agree with what you have written.
I love this blog.
oh this blog is a crack up and i seriously am crackin up that some people took this seriously and got mad at you for being a mormon. like for real, you can't tell that this is a joke blog??! for crying out loud, how dumb do you have to be to not get that by now
The only comment I've read on this blog that has any good sense or compassion. Ruth sounds like she's had it rough, but she may be okay with Jesus, and the right guy to love her - who, hopefully, is your brother! But remember, this is his life to spend how he chooses it, and if he loves her, then as his SISTER, it is your job to support him and love her too - especially considering how Christ loved you and I when he certainly didn't have to.
Being of a more relaxed style is not a sin, and it doesn't determine the person you are. It's sad how shallow people can be:(
Just remember that God made Ruth too and He loves her exactly the way she is. Just like He does you. We're all equal in His eyes.
I know right?! How is it possible that people are missing the real tragedy here?
Also that people are being so (Sorry! I have my faults too though, so just being real) shallow and judging poor Ruth like this.
I thought people this shallow only existed on tv! HahaXD
It's sad how we judge people isn't it? I wonder if it makes God sad?
Someone once said that "You will never be called upon to give anyone more grace than God has already given you."
