quote on quote Grandma

Holy cow guys, thanx for all the Ruth advice!! I am the luckiest girl in the world I swear! Not like bee or eff or H or anything, but swear like, I totally mean what I say when I say that I am the luckiest girl!! Not only do I have two hot twin feti, the best hubby ever and just an all-around way blessed life, but I also have the opp to learn a ton of patience with this whole Ruth marriage thing!! Definately have no attention of leaving the poor yawner alone to fester in her frumpy. Totally just have to sit Ruth down, take her under my proverbrial wing and make her see eyeliner to eyeliner with me on how to have a non-lame-O life. It's not that she's BAD purr-say, just that she's BORING. Better get that Subaru on KSL classifieds stat...it's Escalade time!! Your welcome in advance, future friend! Totally dredding that convo but it's GOTTA happen you guys.

Reader Motorcycle Grandma brought up this important question: "When your hot fetus starts talking at a real early age like five months, what is he/she going to call yours and JJWT's parents? Something really cute and special, I hope, since they will be the most blessed grandparents in the world. "

NO KIDDING!!!

i GOTTA talk to Ruth, if only bc we have to agree on what our kids are gonna call JJWT's parents!! Better choose something soon for all the letters and cards we'll write pretending they're from our unborn children, not to mention all the paint your own pottery stuff we're into!! Seriously, let's figure this out. What do YOU call your cute grandparents? What should we call JJWT and me's parents??!? It's gotta be young, hip, darling, and most importantly look ridiculously DARLING on a custom stamp for stampin.

Gigi for JJWT's mom, and Papi for his dad.

I admire your willingness to "lead, guide, walk beside" Ruth during the transition. How'd you get so nice and spirichal? Your parents must be awesome!

Queen Elizabeth said...

BTW - make sure whatever you pick to call the "Grandparents" does NOT include any form of the word "Grandparents" because that is sooo mean and makes them fill totally old.

Anonymous said...

Just make sure whatever it is does'nt make you're or JJWT's 'rents sound too old, becuz some peepul might associate that oldness to yew!!

Token Asian Friend said...

I knew some kids who called their grandparents Pee-paw and Mee-maw. I think that is downright disrespectful.

Kristina P. said...

Well, since you're so awesome and spiritual, I'm sure the apple doesn't far too far from the tree, so I would go with Stake President Pappy and Sister Stake President Grammy.

Have you thought what will happen if Ruth outshines you and has triplets?!?!? You need to make it really clear that she will never be your parent's daughter and her feti will never be as hot as yours. In a totally nice and spiritual way, of course.

My nephews and nieces started calling my Dad Papa Jellybean because he ALWAYS has jellybeans for the grandkids. They call my Mom Grandma, but she wants my soon-to-be-here son to call her Babushka because she thinks it's cute. Babushka is Grandma in Russian, we have no Russian heritage but she likes it. :) My JJWT's parents are called Grandma (first name) and Grandpa (first name) at their own request. I'm not a huge fan of than, but it works for them.

How bout Grammy, Grams or Grammers for short?

Yew totally don't want to kopy-kat me & my awesome sis, but we call our (favorite) grand'rents "Nanny" and "Bumpa". (Not that we took sides, but my mom's parental units were like much cooler than my dad's. Is that how you feel your parents will be with the twinsies?) It was a collab event, back when we were wee young. I cam up with "Nanny" after watching Mary Poppins (cuz my grandma was as cool as Mary!). My baby sis couldn't say "Grandpa" and it always came out "Bumpa".

Ann said...

Since my real name is Ann, my grandchildren call me Nanna. My rap name is Nanna P. My DH is Pappa C.

This is mostly because my grandchildren have so many grandparents. My SIL is a great guy and a lawyer and everything, but his family is not down with the plan.

Pam said...

My children have taken to calling my mother Namma (sounds like Gramma), and my mother in law is Abi (pronounced Aw-bee) which is short for Abuelita (little grandma in Spanish). Grandpa's are Papa Joe, and Grump-pa (he is a bit of a grouch and he LOVES the name), and since my grandparents are still alive, we have given them special names too... They are not just great grandparents, they are SUPER Grandparents. So they are Super Grandma and Super Grandpa...

Kristen said...

My mom is Mimi to my kids and I always liked Gigi for grandmas, too. My friend's dad is Pa. I know it sounds kinda "Little House on the Prairie", but when a 2 year old is squeaking out a "Pa!", you can't help but think it's the cutest thing ever.

Jules AF said...

You should call them grandma and grandpa from the language of JJWT's mission. That way everyone knows what super cool and hard language he speaks whenever your baby talks!

Kayley said...

Nanna & Grand-dad? I'm sure your naturally adorably clever feti will come up with something perfect when they can't pronounce the entire name yet!

CANDACE said...

well...my aunt has her grands call her "glam-ma" because she feels too young to be a grandma...so how about "glam-ma" & "glam-pa"?

shel7by said...

Take their real name and cute-it-up. My kids call Grandmother Julene "jinky". Grandfather Drew is Grampa Juice. Tell me their names, I'll fix em way cute.

PS Jinky doesn't like her name and she's my in-law, so by calling her that even when we're alone, it's my special way of sticking it to the man. whatever that means.

Amanda said...

My daughter calls her grandma "Tu Tu" and her grandpa "Pop Pop". And she calls her great-grandma "Tu Ta" (that one she came up with all on her own).

I like Nanny and Poppa. A little tradishunal, almost like Grandma and Grandpa, but way Qter, and looks great in krafty letters. Spechally if you spell Nanny with a "ie" stead of a Y.

Kate Edmondson said...

I say grandmom is "Fro Yo Grandmo" and grandpa is "Pop Tart Grandpo," although in my family they were always Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop.

Wende said...

My kids call my husband's gramma Nonna, which is grandmother in Italian. I think it's cute. I also like Pspa for a grandpa. My son called my Dad Poo-pa for a long time.

Kristel said...

My darling Princess was burdened with names picked out by the "old" grandkids. No creativity and so old sounding. (frowny face) It's such a trial! I'd pick Mimi or Tutu for Grandma and Boompa or Poppy for Grandpa.

Wish I had a SIL as cool as U to lead the way!

Sariah said...

My kids call my hubby's 'rents Oma and Opa 'cuz that's grandma and grandpa in German and they are German. I love it.

My sister's kids call one grandma Mimi and grandpa is Poppy. I think that's super cute.

Definitely think you should go foreign language for JJWT's parents. SO CUTE.

My friends kids call their grandma Beautiful but maybe you should save that for your grandkids. My parents are Lala and Poppa and they are way young and hip. My completely and udderly syco mother in law who is completely apostate prefers "Nana" - so thats something you probley wont want to use because it's crazy talk.

IMHO I think you should call them President "Larsen" (lets just say thats they're last name) and his Sis. They need to learn the respect for them folks right away.

Spanky for a grandpa, there is nothing more respectable than that! And some cute fruit or vegetable for grandma, like "apple" or "carrots", cause grandmas bake treats. And maybe the other granparents could just choose some fanulous names like from shakespeare, like that girl from hamlet or juliet or something. cause shakespeer is classy!

My parents are not yet grandparents (working on that!) and my brother, cousins and I were boring and used Grandma (last name) and Grandpa (last name). However, my cousins kids have a TON of grandparents and great-grandparents. And they ALL have different names...

Wife's biological mother - Grammy
Wife's grandparents - G-Gma & G-Gpa
Wife's great grandmother - Nonnie
Husband's parents - Mimi & Gramps
Husband's grandparents - Granny & Grampy

Angelbabe's (JJWT's) parents should be Angel-ma and Angel-pa. Your kids should call your parents what you call them, Mommy and Daddy, because everyone is going to think you are their sister anyway.

Justin said...

Whatever they call them, make sure they always refer to them that way, especially with people who don't know who in the world they're talking about -- as if that's what everyone calls their grandparents. "Yeah, so Mee-Maw tells me she's taking me to Europe!"

Bradley, DeAnna, Donovan, and Chamae said...

My dad doesn't want to be called Grandpa because he feels he is too young. He prefers either G-pa or Papa G (His name is Glen). My mom doesn't mind Grandma so we didn't come up with anything for her. My husbands parents are Granny and Papa (it's a family thing).

I have NO idea for a cool grandpa name because, let's be honest, grandpas are not nearly as important as grandmas...but I have picked the name I want to be called by my perfect grandbabies: YaYa. Sounds fun and young, right? And get this...it is an easy sound for babies to make and will be the third word spoken by the baby, only after the even important Mama and Dada, in that order of course.
Good luck with Ruth! I have total confidence in your ability to be kind but firm.

I defiantly vote with megz, "Tinky -Winky and Dipsy", unless of course you are worried about the controversy, with Tinky-Winky being a homosexshool (oh I hope that was ok, if not, then I meant homo-nuzzling-ual.)
But if that doesn't work for ya, my darling JJWT (who also is darling and hotter-than -heck, in a toaddally righteous way) suggested they could call Grandma something like "G" for short, and give Grandpa a cute pet name like "Spot".

Charlene said...

When this came up with our firstborn, I asked the parental units what they would prefer to be called. My parents, being uber-cool, chose Nana and Papí (my dad is hispanic).

Of course, the other parental units were satisfied with "Grandma & Grandpa" Hmmm....not original at all!

Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be super cute, and the feti will learn to say it by age 6 months!

Hilarious blog -- this is really funny satire. :-) Having read this since the beginning in June, I know that TAMN's priority is that everything must be "totally cute" at all times-- including the grandparents' nicknames. The emphasis is always on "appearances" -- thus the fault-finding with Ruth's haircut, shoes, manicure, mission assignment, recycling habits, education, etc.

As a suggestion, it might be thoughtful to ask the grandparents themselves what nickname they would select. As family members, their viewpoints are important, and rather than have TAMN make the decision all by herself, the grandparents might like to be consulted. :-)

I know this blog is probably just for fun and entertainment, but I think it's a little disturbing. It's really scary the way you are talking about modesty and other important issues. Even if it's all a big joke, I don't think it's funny. Just my honest opinion.

Rissa said...

So I read your last blog and your whole Ruth thing is bothering me.

First of all if someone is your family you should not be dissing them. If you have a problem and you need to vent do it in private (like in a personal journal that no one reads) NOT where everyone you know (and don't) can read it.
You are insulting her and the odds are that if she is engaged to your brother she knows you have a blog.
In other words she knows you dissing on her to all your friends.
NOT a good way to encourage in-law relations.

Face the fact that there are a million things that could be worse about a future sister-in-law. Not knowing her these are just some things you didn't complain about that are way worse. I also encluded some things that you may help you understand her view point and some things that you just seem to need to know.

1. she could wear unmodest cloathing. Sure her cloathes may not be modest but she at least shes not bearing all for the world to see.
2. She could not have heard of the church other then through her hubby-to-be. Which would you rather have her know and be familiar with, etsy or the church.
3.So she doesen't value an exspensive hair cut. Would you perfer her to not value honnesty, integrity, KINDNESS (it is NOT kind to diss her).
4. She dosen't wear heals. She could not be worthy to wear garmets. What would you rather have?
5. So, yah she doesn't have a flip phone. Since you aparently missed it cell phone companies still design and sell flip-phones.
6. She reycles. It is in't a bad thing. I admit I don't do alot of that. It could be her way of thanking Heavenly Father for the resources she (and we) have.
7. They could not be getting married in a temple. The salt lake is not the only temple. There are 100 plus others. The important thing is that they are going to be sealed for time and eternity.
8. Receptions can be costly. Also if your parents were divorced it can be weird and very stressful.
At least she is inviteing you to the wedding.
9. Some poeple get breast reductions because they were teased exstensively for having big breasts in school. It is not nice to be called milk chug, utter girl and cow. I have a friend that was called those things many times and it can kill the self esteme. Also perverted guys tend to stare and it is NOT a good feeling knowing what gross thoughts are going through their heads.

10. How is her getting an educatuion bad? She doesn't have kids right now so what do you want her to do. Waste her time? Women are encouraged to get an education so they can provide for them and their families should something happen to their husband that makes it so he can't

11. Maybe she recieved personal revelation that she was sopost to serve a mission. It is a possibility and I'm sure she learned alot about the goesple.

12. I'm pritty sure you said something about haveing a reception in the cultural hall being bad. If I'm wrong sorry and please skip this part. If I'm right you need to consider that she might not have the money for a reception hall. Also there is nothing wrong with having one in the cultural hall. I have been to many lovely receptions in them. If you are creative enough you can make them beautiful. Also you probably just insulted over 50% of the church members.

13. It is NOT her fault that her parents divorced. There are NO reasons you should ever think less of someon because of there parents choices. I am assumeing that you do not know the reasons her parents split so for all you know there is a very good reason. In no way does that make her a bummer. I am shocked and assume that you have had a very sheltered life because of your posting that. Also if you have to say no offense to something it is offensive and 99% will most likely still be taken that way. So yah, I DO find that offensive and I am sure she would too.

14. wearing large amounts of white at a wedding is NOT polite to the bride or her family.

If I were you I would start counting the blessings you are getting by her becoming a part of your family. I know many people that would gladly trade you. In my opinion you are seriously so blessed.
Be happy and I hope that all goes well with you and your babies.

Not that you don't like that type of girl, just that you choose not to surround yourself with such unrighteousness. Love the "unmodest cloathing", "pritty", and "sopost" if they were intentional. Don't be offended if they weren't. :)

This is a no brainer!! Grandma has definately got to be called Shugee.
1st of all because it makes no sence.
2nd because I bet your Mom is really young since you are so young and hip, so who wants to be called Grandma! Eww!! So OLD! Shugee is hip, young and it isn't anywhere close to the old fogie name Grandma
3rd because it would totally cute on a custom made stamp from stampin. I invision flowers and cute little spring birds in the background??
As for a grandpa name...who cares, Grandmas (Shugee's) get all the glory!! Just go for Papa. :O)

My sis-in-law is Philopeano and speaks Tagalin. "Lola" is grandma in her language, so that's what all the kids in the fam call her!!

We call my Dad Papa. Just for the heck of it.

Aunt = Tita with the "ee" sound
Uncle = Tito

TAMN! No more texting during church. Elder Oaks said it loud and clear!

Pray about it. This is eternal identity stuff. God will definitely want to be involved. You can run God's errands like Pres Monson said today.

The grandkids call my dad "Bucka" which is cute but I also like "Poppy" like on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Wow I almost had a heart attack there...I thought that you were talking about Ruth Winder my cousin who is engaged. But apparently not, because I talked to her last night and she's not engaged. Anyways, you don't know me but I get the idea that you know Ruth and Jessi so I decided to look at your blog. You are very popular, 1500 comments...wow!

Maga.. the prettiest grandma is Maga. It is cute and sounds more like mother than grandma
Noni, and Papa are good too. Nona. I like granddad. When my son was four and his granddad died, he called him granddead... isn't that too cute?

Definitely grammers for one of the grandmas. I would go with papa and mama for one set, it's just so darling and old fashiony.
