PROP 8

Sooooo WIERD how many people keep asking me about "Prop 8"!

"TAMN, do you support it??" "TAMN, are you against it?" "TAMNtastic, will you blog about it?" "TAMNatron, join our facebook group!" "TAMNers, take a stand!" "TAMNkins, are you so pumped it passed?" "TAMNy, follow the profit!" "TAMNy, are you wheat or tears?" "TAMN, it's like the war in heav'n." "TAMNers, you & JJWT gotta go door-to-door with us!"

YOU.

GUYS.

Firstly, there are some lines we don't cross in our fam, and one of those is that we do NOT do anything door to door unless it involves pest control/security systems, a hefty back-end hunka cash and summer sells. Like I say, scarry current events make me board and frowny. PLUS, you KNOW I did drill slash cheer in HS...what's with everyone thinking I know about yawny and lame stage-crew stuff? WAY to busy counting my workout hours for "individual worth" themed personal progress project to know slash care SQUAT about various props, let alone the 8th one. What's the big deal? And, TMI, but wheat makes me bloaty, and I seriously hardly even REMEMBER the war in heav'n.

Plus, I've been super busy DECKING MY HOUSE OUT FOR CHRISTMAS NOW THAT ITS THE HOLIDAYS! Manheim Steemroller on repeat + my home drowned in homemaid reeths + blow up yard turkey = luv @ home.

I haven't laughed that hard in ages. Stage crew! Oh, TAMN.

kris said...

of COURSE he did summer sells!!

Nikki said...

SO glad this wasn't another politicks post. Serious yawners!!

Rach said...

ummmm...CLASSIC TAMN!

So glad all this election stuff is over and we can move on to important things, like Manheim Steemroller.

Jules AF said...

But didn't you put up signs in Utah that are TOTALLY relevant because you can vote on that prop8 and everything? I did!

Hizzeather said...

Normally I laugh at everything on your blog, but as someone in the middle of a "war zone", I am seriously, so disappointed. That's fine if "TAMN" doesn't want to get involved, but then you shouldn't mention it at all. Trivializing something that I have spent hundreds of hours fighting for, on behalf of YOU ALL, is another kick in the gut. I am exhausted from all the effort I put in this. I have lost friends because of my stance. I have been called every name in the book, all while trying to fight for our religious freedom. Even though prop 8 passed (hopefully...the votes are still coming in), it was only a major battle in an even bigger war. Next this will be going federal, and last time I checked, Utah was still a part of the US.

Sorry to be such a "downer", but I just thought you should know how your thoughtless post and it's accompanying comments made this California gal feel. I doubt I'm the only one.

Jessica said...

That was a frowney comment from hizz. Maybe she needs a pedi after all that camping she did.

Bella said...

hey tamn! still love ya TONS even though i agree that you probably should have opted out of commenting on prop 8 (even though i realize you did your best to address the questions and be not offensive on the touchy subject). i blogged about prop 8 today, too. mine was lengthy and filled with heartache.

but i can't wait for all the 'decor' updates now that we are entering the good holidays! hope you are having a great night!

Jo said...

You must avoid frowny at all cost darling TAMN. Frowny is the root of all wrinkles and you need to stay HOT. Way to go.

Rach said...

HAHAHAHA! Don't judge TAMN for her feelings. This wouldn't be Seriously, So Blessed if she weren't offending somebody :).

my stay-at-home-momma drama said...

I agree . . . totally frowny post by the Hizz. I'll chip for the pedi if you cover the fro-yo.

Cheri said...

Ok, Hizz. Good job on your hard work. It passed. You win. Good job, really. You've obviously worked so hard that you're exhausted and therefore, a little sensitive. Give yourself a nap and some distance. Read this again later and I promise you'll laugh. STAGE CREW?? And that summer sells stuff gets me every time.

Ruth said...

LOL!

i love you, tamners.

Jenna Holm said...

P.S.
You forgot the reeking sent of Hobble Crick candles! My fav!

Laura said...

Some people need to take a chill pill - why should TAMN worry about props when she has to get her candy-wreaths out and hang lights from the ceiling? TAMN, I'm just worried that you might be doing a little too much with the decorating - think of the feti and call your Mia Maids to come do some community service!

Anonymous said...

dude Tamn, I'm a cali girl too (San Fran war zone) that lost friends, worked hard, etc. and all your post did was make me laugh- and I needed a good laugh. Besides the BOM says "do not take offense" not "do not be offensive," jeez, have a sense of humor right?.

Kami said...

Yeah, TAMN, it's kind of stupid/lame to bring up Prop 8 if you're not even going to say anything cliche about it.

Just talk about Christmas decorations and how the fact that it snowed means you totally need to start decorating or something.

I was seriously so hoping for you to say something funny about Prop 8 then you didn't and I'm seriously so disappointed. :/

Whitney R said...

So what exactly do you remember about the war in heaven? You said BARELY!! Please do share.

Also, I love Manheim. And TSO(seen them twice and want to do it again). Oh, and Tamn, if you know what TSO stands for you are officially cool..... again.

amber belmonte said...

lmao!

One of my favorite posts ever. 'Huh-lare!' I have actually heard ppl say the wheat and tares thing & the war in heaven thing & in all seriousness I knew a girl who counted work outs for personal progress projects. Talk about a finger on the pulse of mormondom.

I love this blog. Gives me a much needed laugh every time. Never stop.

I'm SURE you're totally part of a kick-A releaf so,sigh, ety presidentsy bcuz you are so richous. I bet you get revelashuns for other people all the time!

Either that, or your the chairperson (I'm sure you'd totally correct someone calling you chairMAN) of your activities committee, bcuz I'm sure you could put on the most awesomest of activities, like I do.

hales said...

I absolutely agree with hizzeather. SHE'S the one that rocks. There are a million of us California girls that agree with YOU. Thanks for taking a stand instead of trying to go for a laugh, albeit a stupid one.

Rach said...

LOL!

Thanx, TAMN, for helping us NOT TAKE OURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY. Ehem.

Ok, I appreciate everyone who worked hard on prop 8 and I'm glad it passed and frankly I'm sick of the whole thing so THANK YOU FOR MAKING LIGHT OF IT in an innoffensive, light-hearted way and providing us w/ a bit of comic relief.

AS Amber said...

OUCH! One thing your readers really need to work on is FORMING AN OPINION!! Wowza! So first of all to jenna: TAMN is the Mia Maid advisor. Second: I don't understand the summer sells stuff...sorry, I'm a little slow. And third: thank-you to "token asian friend" for clearing up the AI thing for me! Again, a little slow. And lastly: LOL!!! You never fail to make me laugh. Thanks!

stillclueless said...

It makes sense that "TAMN" wouldn't really have an opinion - she's busy in her own world, can't be bothered with all this ... complicated stuff. It isn't trivializing anything. The fact that there ARE people like that is what makes it so freaking funny! So funny. So sad.

And prop 8? Let's hope that in real life we all shouldered some of it... Good, good job!

Now let's have a freaking froyo or three... and I'm gonna celebrate by buying another t-shirt. A diet coke one this time...

TAMNy, TAMNy, TAMNy...

Looks like you aCCidEntLy made some eBFFs angry....eeEEk!!! Prolly should write a GINORMOUS pology letter to ev-er-yBUDDY cause you todally don't want them to be fended, right?

Just MAKE SURE you do the tilted head-pouty face-shrugging shoulders-long drawn out "Sorrry"-curtsey at the end kind of pology.

Besides, we all could use a lesson on fOrGiVeNeSs, right?

Thanks TAMN for reminding us that this blog is all about you, you, you - and that it's not a representation of the opinions of your "business manager." If TAMN started blogging about things many people are actually concerned about, then we'd know TAMN was kidnapped. I'm pretty confident that Ruth and Yvette would blog a big "thank you" to Hizzeather!

As another cali girl and faithful reader, tell everyone else to LIGHTEN UP! Freak! If you guys want a serious post about prop 8 visit pretty much any other blog in the world, I needed a laugh after all the heavy stuff we've been doing the past few months! Thanks TAMN!

Sra said...

Prop H8 is all about discrimination. I don't care if this blog is a joke, because the issue isn't.

Mandy said...

Ditto hizz.

Cheri said...

Okay, I'll stop soon. This is a funny post. Plz don't make it into something it's not.

Everywhere is talking about prop 8, so why not TAMN? This isn't a stance, people. TAMN didn't take a stance bc TAMN (and the many, many adorably slash shallow ppl like her) just doesn't care. Props. PROPS. Come on. It's funny. Chill out. It's not disrespect to anybody's hard work/beliefs/discrimination/tradition. WHEAT MAKES HER BLOATY.

And does anyone else LOVE the summer sales stuff? So, so, so true.

Jessica Martiele said...

Mmm...not so much. That's one life-long friendship down the tubes for me, and 4 others who think I've personally destroyed their families. Maybe everyone else can laugh over it, but my husband was called a bigoted a-hole this weekend in front of our kids while handing out vote-reminders. Sorry. Might have been funny a couple weeks from now. Still too fresh a wound.

Trent!? said...

THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT THE ISSUE. At all.

Thanx, Hizz et. al. for your hard work. Thanx, TAMN for this desparately needed laugh.

Little GrumpyAngel said...

I live in California and I've been in the Prop 8 war zone for so long, I'm glad TAMN doesn't want to talk about it. I came here for a momentary break from all the anger and fighting, and for a sweet moment just wallow in the bliss of shallowness. Then I read the comments...Apparently, there's no escape from Prop 8 :-( Bummer...

Sue said...

What is the joke on "stage crew"? I want to know.

The Mostess said...

Haha...I feel partly to blame, since I'm one of the peeps that egged TAMN on re: prop 8. I really wanted to get her deep thoughts on Prop 8, and she totally delivered.

SuperMommy said...

No matter how many times I check in trying to see why people actually think this is funny, it's just dumb & more times that not, completely inappropriate. You should really stick to your joke life & completely stay away from anything real, especially gospel doctrine, how is that a joke to anyone? Awful. Seriously, so dumb.

Rachel said...

I love me a good satire.
And that's exactly what you've created.
:]

[[Srsly, stage crew????
That's the PUNNIEST thing I've ever heard! In my life!!]]

TAMN-the-fabulous, I love your blog times the amount I love a billion pedis! plus some evenly spaced, low cal fro yos!!! cuz if they weren't evenly spaced, i'd have to purge, and i try to keep that to a min! ROLOLFFOLOLDL! :D

Rachel said...

OH, and Sue, TAMN's referring to "Prop 8" as if it's a prop used in a play. So the whole stage crew thing is basically saying "I know nothing about 'props' because I never worked backstage. I was a cheerleader!"

That make sense? :]

mandorama said...

I think the key phrase here is "luv @ home". These people are in love. They want to make a home. Why couldn't others just let them be? It's devastating.

kris said...

Supermommy: this blog is hilarious. Never ONCE has TAMN said anything-ANYTHING--inappropriate about gospel doctrine. Ever. Get a pedi and I swear you'll feel better.

I really enjoy how this post has absolutely NOTHING to do with the issue and people are still mad.

Amanda K said...

I'm pretty sure that TAMN has just as much of a right to NOT care about prop 8 as you have a right to support it. It's called America. And I have a right to think its freakin' hilarious! Practice what you preach right? If you want to be able to voice your opinion you have to give that right to others without being critical of their voice, even if they don't agree with you-- shocking, I know :)

Rachel H said...

The amount of people getting fired up over a SSB post is hilarious. TAMN - you are FILLED WITH AWESOME FABULOSITY, and never forget it. Don't listen to the hat'rs.

Anonymous said...

TAMN! You are a comedic genius! Totally love that you are so focused on your personal progress project. Your little twinnners will probably not even know about prop whatchamacallit, but they will be so glad that you don't spend too much time frowny thus avoiding those old lady wrinkle lines.

GladysIcanbe! said...

umm, like there's enough stuff to make me all frowny out there, I come here to get uplifted by the truths taught here with a tsp of sweetness and humor! Lighten up peeps! Oh, TAMN, love your play list but now that we're done with trunker treat, how about some Mannheim Steamroller and other Christmas tunes? David A would be a cute elf though...

Olivia Meikle said...

TAMN, I don't even know why so many people are getting so mad about weirdo stage crew stuff, but they are probably all just old stage crew-ites themselves, and are just jealous of all your drill team fabulosity. Ignore them, and keep spreading your TAMNy wisdom on the world. We need it.

KJ said...

so with those homemade "reeths" will you also be decking your halls with piles of little painted pieces of wood? Especially pieces of wood with words on them? Wooden Santas and reindeer and angels and all with the antiquey paint? You go girl. And for what it's worth, if people aren't looking for some lightening up and timely jokes (nobody mocked the issue at hand or it's significance) then they probably shouldn't visit here. Duh!

Audrey said...

For the most part I think this blog is pretty funny, and good satire. But sorry "Kris", there have been some things that have been inappropriate, some things that have crossed the line regarding the gospel. It's bound to happen in satire, and it's forgivable - it's impossible to walk that line of satire without occasionally crossing it, but don't say that there has never been anything inappropriate when other people feel there have been.
That's it.

Kayla Cooks said...

I lurve this blog! And as fabulous as TAMN is, I think what is the best is people's comments and checking out their blogs. Too. Funny.
I applaud those of you who fought so hard for your beliefs, but seriously, lighten up. You obviously don't get TAMN. It's easy to laugh until it's about you, huh?
As far as Prop 8 goes, (I just can't resist putting my two cents in) it's a great idea in theory, but it just makes me think too much of Satan's plan--forcing people to do the right thing or not allowing them to do the wrong thing. Do you fight that hard for every law that might prevent people from doing something against the Plan?

kris said...

audrey, you're entitled to your opinion but I totally disagree. Has TAMN ever even talked about doctrine? I mean, real doctrine?? Come on. She didn't even mention anything about prop 8 except its name...relax, everyone. Laughter is the best medicine. Thanx, TAMN!

Jon said...

@ MandoRama - that is exactly how I chose to read it too.

Amanda said...

kris said...

Seriously, you guys! TAMN didn't say anything about anything in this post, didn't make fun of anything "serious" or even MENTION what prop 8's about. Chilllllllllax and let the sunshine in!

Ashley said...

Thank you for the laughs!! and "Props" to you TAMNers on not turning lame-o-serious like some would like.

lori said...

i think you're great and i love this blog for many reasons. i'm all about not taking things too seriously and i whole-heartily feel humor is the best medicine, however, i completely agree with hizzeather on this issue. seeing the protestors outside our temple today was nothing to take lightly. it was no joking matter. this issue should not be open to sarcasm, even in the name of "good" humor. it might have been better to apply the, "if-you-can't- say-something-nice-rule" and just not have said anything at all.

Kristina said...

Can I just say that I absolutely love the people who comment on here and are offended or critical of the blog, and then write things like "whole-heartily."

Love it.

C.J. Schneider said...

This entire blog is a wonderfully gentle criticism of all of us Mormon moms and our human tendencies towards shallowness, self righteousness and pride. This post on Prop 8 isn't making fun of the issue but is another gentle criticism of those too selfish to get involved in the big issues that face us today. We're living in tough times and I think this blog is a great wake up call to all of us to shed the TAMN within and make the selfless sacrifices required to stand up for what they believe is right. Thanks for the post!

Rach said...

The joke isn't Prop 8, you guys. The joke is TAMN's lame REACTION to Prop 8 and how she can't be bothered. I don't think anyone is taking hard work or protestors or whatever lightly. Once again, good work TAMN: timely, insightful, maybe a tad irreverent but not inappropriate.

Laura said...

This was a hilarious post, and I think it is ridiculous that anybody who reads / understands the blog would ask you to provide a serious commentary or widget supporting Prop 8. I think you handled it perfectly. Oh, and (damn) I used exercise to fulfill a personal progress goal, too.

Jon said...

TAMN do you ever post comments to your blog using your "real" name? You could and no one would be the wiser. Just curious...

SuddenlySouthernCyndi said...

Or just maybe….
Call me crazy (& I’m sure some of you will) but you know, I think the debate amongst commenters on whether or not TAMN did something inappropriate in bringing up Prop 8 is pretty ironic when you consider that no one has given any thought to the idea that maybe, just maybe, TAMN didn’t have the same attitude towards that particular political issue that she and many others were “told” to have. Of course I don’t know and cannot speak for her either as “TAMN” or the author behind TAMN and if she is offended by the mere suggestion then I’m sure she’ll just delete this, and that’s ok. But I just thought I’d throw that out there since yes, this is satire, but it’s also a lighthearted and comedic view of ideas and issues that are, well, easily and hilariously looked at from a “different” point of view. And I think that difference is what escapes many. Like I said when I first started reading this blog; she had me at “second pair of earrings.”
