That is so awesome you protected your twinsies from hearing about how they need to work hard in school! Sucking glitter is a much better activity anyway. Besides, Pres Obama didn't use baby sign, so they wouldn't have understood anything anyway.

I didn't win, but I'm not bitter.

OMG is today the day that your poor precious angeltots might have been forced to listen to a DEMOCRAT BRAINWASH THEM at pre-pre-preschool? Good call JJWT, you don't want your kids especially little Aliviyahh getting the message that they should pursue education, work hard, study or value their opportunities. That would probably turn her into a yucky grad student instead of a pretty cougerette.

I realize that I am now out of step with probably every single person in Utah, but I think this whole thing has been ridiculous. I loathed most of the decisions President Bush made, disagreed with his politics, violently disagreed with the war and found little to admire in his dubious intellectual qualifications or what I knew of his personal character. With all that said, if I had kids and he had chosen to address them directly I would not have protested and made some puerile fuss about it. It is an opportunity to teach kids that they are important citizens of our country and that the president cares about them. Its an opportunity to teach kids respect for the office of the presidency, how ever much you may dislike the man himself.

But you're right. Glitter them binkies and keep your kids loving America the Brock-free way.

You kept the twins home from pre-pre school in order to protect them from hearing a message to study hard and stay in school...This is unfortunately both sad and true. XOXO -- D.

Stupid Universe! Oh well, congrats to those who won!

I don't really need any of that stuff, anyway. I just enter the contests to help you feel good about yourself.

No doubt we should take America back. Who does the President think he is-- making speeches and stuff? I remember back on 9/11 when my teacher tried to turn on the President's speech to console the nation after that 9/11 tragedy; I was like "No way. That is not the role of government. Turn it off. I can't watch it unless my parents say that I can watch the president of the United States make a speech."

And I still believe that today. Now I listen to whatever my hubby says about politics-- just like you and JJWT.

And NOT that I watched today's speech or anything like that, but I don't think that the government should be taking over the role of parents by encouraging them to stay in school and work hard. That encouragement should come from richuss parents and not the government.

Haha! I hate that I didn't win, but love that you kept the twins home from pre-pre-school.

Hard work and staying in school are so offensive to me. *frownsmile* Just teach all the little girls in Young Women how to get their MRS. degrees. That's all they'll need in life.

I WON!!!! WOOHOO! I'm glad I never gave up! Thanks Tamn, you're the best! Hang in there ladies...it will happen to you one day!

Ohh I see "TAMN" is going political now.

Lovely.

It's one thing to have the President speak on the merits of education. I would support that whole heartedly. It's another thing entirely for the Department of Education to send out detailed lesson plans glorifying the president. It smacks of indoctrination just a little to me.

To anticipate this speech, the DOE secretary sent a letter detailing "classroom activities" with troubling catch-phrases such as "the work of educators is 'critical to…our social progress.' It is a statement that many educators hold: that the purpose of education is to impose activist values in it's students. This I believe to be very wrong.

There is more material that is designed to glorify Obama "by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama." In this lesson plan, students will be expected to describe how Obama will "inspire" them before his speech and after.

The danger here is the gradual encroachment of the government on education, with politicians eventually using education to indoctrinate students. Such a situation is the antipode of a free society. If my children were in school, I would definitely be attending with them today.

But, you know, since I am a passionate conservative, that automatically makes me an idiot and analogous to TAMN.

At least I have the balls to say what I believe without anonymity.

Trent!? said...

Oh, dear.

No one is "going political." As usual, all TAMN has to do is REFERENCE something timely and people assume she is making some sort of statement so it's time for them to climb on the soapbox.

Your satire is great, TAMN. Please never stop. Even though my wife never wins these giveaways.

Krista said...

You take back that Merica, TAMN! It is so much better off in your darling, manicured hands!!

Shannon J said...

TAMN you totally made the correct call. Especially since teachers have NO Control over their own lesson plans. I mean why would students need to read about presidents anyways. Plus nobody should inspire our children besides our prophet and the HG. Since the government totally pays for our education they should have no say at all as to what goes on in there. I'm glad you had a fun weekend!

Lindsay said...

I do think it is political, because cloaked in her witty satire is mocking scorn for those ignoramuses (whether it be TAMN, JJWT, or another clever acronym) who have voiced opposition to the speech. Even if the statement wasn’t political, I think it is important for others to understand that concerns over Obama’s speech are rooted in reasons other than complete ignorance.

Rach said...

Congrats to the giveaway winners, and, way to go as usual, TAMN.

How long have the twins been in pre-pre-school?

Unknown said...

Totally agree with the Griffins... the last line killed me LOL

Jeannie said...

Oh my Gosh TAMN! I just watched the education video thingy.

His light blue tie totally accented his speckled greying hair.

I totally think Michelle dresses him.

: ) Paula said...

Glitter and signing for pre-pre-school, TAMN? Love it!

Is paranoia the reason "other than complete ignorance" for voicing opposition? Seriously, just wonderin'. . . how dare our president speak. And to the children no less! Won't somebody think of the children?!? Go on another vacay, Obama! Governing like Bush did is seriously more presidentchul anyways. Oh and I better add in a *frownsmile* for his helmet-free bike ride with his helmet-clad daughters. And wasn't his blackberry upside down for his photo op in front of a flag a few weeks ago? Whattheheck?!? Obviously he's a loozer, he's making so many important mistakes as prez. Let's keep up the good work scrutinizing, guyz!

It's because I'm only primary secretary, rite? Not righteous enough.

"reddest diaper tan line"? Isn't that, like, child abuse?

SuddenlySouthernCyndi said...

Oh TAMN, you've really done it now! The comments are a HOOT! Considering the source of the readers/commenters of this blog I get a special kick out of those concerend about "indoctrination". That's hilarious!

Anonymous said...

They go to PUBLIC preschool?

The DOE is going to totally warp their righteous minds. Just ask yourself what else is in the school lesson plans?

missOlea said...

@Stephanie - the real child abuse would be if Aliviyah wants to be famous and her mom won't do everything to help her acheive that goal (Sasha Bennington's mom knows how it's done). She needs to get used to tans - but TAMN, sweety, perhaps you should go fake next time. We all know it's better for the environment. *frownsmile*

Besides, Tridger needs to toughen up if he's going to be a quarterback. He needs to build up a resistance to the sun's rays.

debbie said...

TAMN,
I didn't want my darling child to listen to the president {Brock is so full of himself, he has to call attention to himself 24/7.(Oh wait that sounds like you. Oops, my bad)}. I let my little one listen bc I was just too busy with scrapping and stuff to remember to write a note excusing him from another "I'm Brock-Look at me" moment. But we'll talk about it next week in home evening, if I remember.
And to Shannon, the government pays for our schools? And exactly where do you think the government gets it's money?

Lori said...

So glad you and JJWT took back America today! Seriously, who would want their kids to get an edjucation?? Espeshally if they are going to be righteous stay at home Mom's???

And Lindsay, sweetie, seriously, this site isn't for you! Move along....

Amalie said...

someone spoke today? Just kidding, I'm just bitter because I didn't win. again. oh well I refuse to give up!!

dharvey said...

I'm a lot older than most people here, I think. I can never think of a time in the past when a speech from the American President was banned in the schools.

The values of hard work and personal responsibility, which were emphasized in the speech, are values which are important to teach children. It's a sad day in Merica when schools will not allow a speech from the leader of the free world. Very sad.

Jane and Kory Fenton said...

I didn't win. I'm so sad. And I'm even more sad I don't have kids so I can't really participate in this huge political debate Lindsay started! bahahaa

Jana said...

Oh, man. I happen to know Lindsay in real life (she actually introduced me to SSB way back in the day through a reference on her blog) and I can attest to the fact that she's a very awesome (very opinionated) person.

That being said, I think the problem is that instead of calmly raising objections to the 'lesson plan' that was to accompany the speech (and as a daughter of a teacher, I know that lesson plans are often seen as optional!) the far right chose to stir everyone up about the nerve of President Obama himself, demanding some sort of mandatory audience of our innocent children at which point he would say heaven-knows-what. It's the ABSURD insinuation that our President can't be trusted around children that most of us object to.

And all the hubbub turned out to be unnecessary; the DOE re-read the 'lesson plan' and realized that it was worded poorly and revised it several days ago. Indoctrination avoided!

About the giveaway: I have a secret: I didn't enter. The odds seemed too stacked against me, there were already like a million comments. Does that indicate that I've given up on life completely? Or that I should?

Good luck with the grad school, Erika. TAMN, thanks for supporting her higher education, which I know you are all about especially for Aalyvianna.

As usual, the serious comments on this blog are even funnier than the post itself. Keep going, people!

I watched the President's speech. Then I sang "Follow the Prophet" fourteen times to un-indoctrinate myself.

defintiely fasting and hitting the temple when the next Sweet Tooth Fairy giveaway comes around

Liz said...

I'm sorry that Lindsay chose to make such a serious comment on such a silly blog. Do I really need to point out the irony in the fact that she fears "government encroachment on education"?
Ummmm.... taxpayer funded public education... state-mandated standards... elected school boards.
Reminds me of the infamous guy who demanded at a recent town hall meeting that the government get its "hands off" his Medicaid.
There are no words.

Julia said...

I think we all need to show a little more compassion for those whose children are so unstable that they can't listen to a speech telling them to study hard and wash their hands without being ruined and brainwashed.

That must be really hard {frownsmile}.

Trish&Heath said...

X-tra funny, loved it!! I'm totally converted to take aMercia back from Brack now because of your big political statement. Thank you for teaching me so much about richisnuss, manicures, scrapping and politics! One stop blogging!!

Well he said heavens know what at Notre Dame. At least he was speaking to adults then.

It would be like him saying to BYU grads they shouldn't be trying to convert people but provide humanitarian relief abroad only. Or telling a group of vegans to stop protesting meat eating and leather wearing, we all like beans and can build on that.

I'm more worried about the rest of the DOE lesson plans. The ones that don't get attention.

I wished Clinton had continued the tradition of speaking to kids.

Gracie said...

I am a little dissapointed in you, Tamn. I didn't win the yummy little cakes. It is true that I didn't enter but I figured that you were in touch enough with the spirit to know that they were for me. I think it is sad that you have to rely on people actually signing up to win stuff. I guess I should expect it from someone who can't even bother to homeschool pre-pre-school. But still. It's sad.
