oh naturelle: advice needed!

Normally I'm the one GIVING advise since people are always like, how can I be like you, what's your secret, how come your hair is so shiney, how come your arms are like freaky toothpics, how can I get my escalade as glowy as your's, how do you get your lashes so huge and adorably clumpy, how come the darling lotiony smell never fades on you, and so on and so forth. But today I have been seriously so humbled bc it's our last day of vaycay in paradise and between asking strangers to take pics of me scandily clad in front of various landmarks {true vaycays are vacations from EVERYTHING including undies}, I have noticed alot of delicious fruits and veggies stands.

But they have tons of bugs, but are totally natural, so I was wondering when I get home should I role my eyes at how trendy it is to go organic or should I refuse to shop ANYWHERE but farmer's market for the safety of my family???
If I go all organic on you, will it make me seem way socially conscience or just nasty granola??? Which one is best, which one is cutest and which one will make you feel worst about yourself around me?? And honestly do they even HAVE organic diet coke anymore?

This is just now acurring to me bc spending a whole intire week in another place is super eye opening life changing and I really GET stuff now I never did before.

TAMN! Get out of the sun and back into the yucky air so you can think clearly! It doesn't matter where you buy the fruit (Costco's the best), but where you bought the dish to serve it in!

Lydia said...

Totally organic. Organic is like 5 times more Xpensive, so by buying organic not only do you look like you care so much more about the invironment and your darling babes, but you will also look like you aren't forced to buy icky mast-produced vegetables like everybody else 'cause that's all they can afford. ew.

I heard that Diet Coke in the 2-leeter bottles is more organic cuz they had to dilute the formula in the canned stuff so it wouldn't eat thru the alunimum.

SammyStewart said...

Totally go organic. You'll be so cute when you say things like CD, BF, and BW and you DON'T mean Compact disc, boyfriend, and...bling wearer(?)

debbie said...

Okay FYI, the whole organic/vegan thing is so granola that once you say you are one, people stop listening to anything eltse you have to say. You say you're vegan or whole foods, or whatever, and people are like, "I'll never invite her to ANY of my parties" or even worse, they just give you a sad little pity smile and never ask you for any advice again. It makes it impossible to be a good leader if either of those things happen. SO... I think the organic thing is against the plan.

Julia said...

You have to buy only organic for your family, because you love them. Unlike uggo people who just don't care.

But. Do NOT shop at the farmers' market. It is gross and dirty and full of farmers. Shop at Whole Foods.

Also, buy reusable bags, but get new ones every week and to coordinate with various outfits and stuff.

Janelle said...

If you go compleetly organic and totes granola, you'll half to stop shaving your legs and armpits, two. Gross!

And TAMNers, dear, I thought you were off Diet Coke anway?

You eat vegetables? That haven't been processed?

Organic is totally hot and awesome but you have to make sure it's cute and not nasty.

Buying the well-trimmed shiny organic produce from the supermarket where everything is clean: YES!

Having it delivered to your door in those shares where it's all immaculately cleansed: YES!

Going to farmers' markets where it's nasty, sometimes misshapen and still coated with dirt: NO!

Growing it yourself, getting sweaty and breaking a nail: NO! (If you want to follow the prophet's advice stick some parsley and rosemary in the ground but DO NOT eat it.)

Going to a market stand where not only is it dirty but the people do NOT blow-dry: NO!

But organic is very cute and it will probably cure your infertilities too.

just like you fill sorry for peeps who still have 2 colomn blogs, i fill sorry for you that you haven't gone orgainc already. i mean sirisly. your kids are prolly already affected by the amount of pestisides they eat. and green is the new pink.
i'd be totally jealous if you went organic, because of course everyone wants to be just like you.
and if you did it, that would mean i could do it.

Laurel said...

Yeah, your week in Paradise has really made you deep! Here's the secret, TAMN. It's not so much about what you eat, or why you feel that you should eat a certain way. It's WHERE you shop. Ideally Whole Foods, but if there's not one of those close to you, then Trader Joe's is okay. Farmer's Markets don't have grocery bags that you can use to take stuff to church or play groups in, so you don't really get credit for being "organic" shopping there so don't waste your time. If Whole Foods or TJ's sells it it's healthy.

(I cringe writing this! But this mentality is rampant... I see it frequently...)

Sara Ballstaedt said...

well if you go organic you're going to be using a lot more money than you did before, which may be completely fine since your like so loaded and all, even though your students. I say, just pretend to be organic and secretly not. mk?

Allison said...

TAMN, this makes me so sad. {frownsmile} I can't believe that you haven't already gone organic. What are you going to shock us with next - that Alivyiah and Tridger use car seats that cost less than $300 each? You of all mommies should know that more expensive ALWAYS equals BEST! The factz: moms who love their kids spend more money on their kids, whether the more spendy products are actually better or not!

Jennie said...

Whatever you decide, make sure you fit your use of reusable grocery bags into conversations to make the rest of us who still use PLASTIC feel uber-bad.

Mrs. B. Roth said...

You being organic totally makes me feel worse about myself. It's like the wheat grinders and all that.

(As in: sorry I didn't get out to VT you this month, but here is a loaf of homemade organic wheat bread; I grinded it myself!)

Organic is cuter. Mind the bugs.

daltongirl said...

Going partly organic is nasty granola. It means you care about the earth and health and stuff, but you can only afford to get into it part way. Also, you prolly don't shave your pits. Ew.

Going totally organic is awesome! It means you have tonz more money than anyone else, because mostly no one besides hot movie stars can afford to buy EVERYTHING organic. It's another way for you to teach other people, b/c you can turn down their gross, Fatty McPhaterson RS treats by asking if there are any inorganic ingredients, and then you don't have to pretend like you're just turning them down b/c you have an eating disorder.

Also, you can buy Jones diet cola, which is organic for all intensive purposes, meaning it's even good for Alivyiah. Win, win!

Kate G said...

organic diet coke... LOL!

Colt said...

Just say whatever you buy is organic, no one will no the diff.

I hope you're eyes weren't opened to poverty -- I guess on a cruise that isn't likely. My best advise is to be super inconsistent. Insist on buying only organic fRUiTs and VeGetAbLesin the grocery store, so your organic food had to be shipped rilly far and had an equally awful empact on the invironment as regular food. BUT still by stuff with tons of yummy preservatives like your guilty pleasure Cup a soup (BAD I KNOW!) or even the occasional Lil Debbie snack to sniff then throw away. That way you can have your cake and eat it too -- be way judgemental and rude yet also healthy but still eating exactly what you wanted to eat.

Have you justified buying 10 cute tote bags you pretend you'll fill with groceries yet?

The Boob Nazi said...

Please, you're already all organic. Come on.

thetallgirlny said...

It's about finding a balance. Some things are better organic...some there just jack up the prices and slap organic on it. But here in NY, being organic is the way to be and it's def cute.

Ashlee said...

Totally organic is no longer granola. It's now part of being high maintenance. It's perfect for you.

BreAnn said...

Oh ma gosh, I would totally feel like a pig around you if you were eating an organic grapefruit and I was eating a non-organic grapefruit! Then you can be one of those moms that can say "I only put the bery best in my kids tummies"

Mike and Kira said...

I think the question you need to ask yourself would be, is Cafe Rio organic?

Bee said...

Be organic because your kids are better than everyone elses and only eat the best. Only the rich and fab can be socially concience <3

Kim said...

OMG you haven't gone organic yet?!?! Please please please tell me your kids are in $30 a piece Blueberry Minky Cloth diapers!!! If ur twinsies aren't then I don't know who to have as my role model anymore!

Lara said...

First - organic is way expensive. So only the richest of the rich can afford to go organic.

It will definitely elevate you socially.

And make sure to buy vegan beauty products. Like Aveda and Pureology. Don't ever make you're own soap.

And don't ever become part of a co-op.

You forgot to mention that when people ask about your freaky toothpic arms they usual say "amazingly toned freaky toothpic arms". Because I'm sure you would make Kelly Ripa feel fat and lazy.

Ewww you so don't want to go organic. Then you'll have to stop shaving {if you even have hair that grows on your uber righteous body}, and you'll have to wear berks. You SO don't want to be that girl. And, I've heard that organic diet coke tastes like week old reconstituted re-fried beans from the Church cannery. Now, do you really want to go organic?!

P.S.
I don't think you can drive an escalade if you go organic...

Nova said...

If you think about it, all fruit is carbon based (as are humans) therefore organic. Duh, Tamn you are already organic... therefore trendy. Isn't it cool when you find out you were already cool!

Lindsey said...

Don't go organic; wouldn't you rather have potentially dangerous chemicals than food that was fertilized with cow and chicken poop? Seriously. If you do go organic, be sure to buy the products where it really matters, like boxed mac & cheese and frozen meals.

Also, what are you doing to help Haiti? Buying tons of cute, trendy stuff and music that says "Help for Haiti" on it?

Little Lovables said...

go organic. it will enrich you spiritly and your food will taste so much better and be healthier.

you won't even have to pay tithing anymore if you buy from farmers, b/c it's so much more expensive and like donating to charity

Juanique said...

Definitely go organic! Why would you want to eat something that even bugs won't go near because it has nasty sprays on it? that doesn't make sense to me.

Besides, organic food digests a LOT more easily because they still have all their yummy enzymes in them. So now your body doesnt have to work as hard to break the food down. conventional foods digest about 30% and ur body works 70% to break the rest of the food down. With organic, the food digest 95% by itself (due to the natural enzymes in the food) while your body only has the other 5% to work for.
(and thats a fact.... I swear I didn't make that up...well I wouldn't swear in real life)

dharvey said...

Do the upscale socially conscience thing and go both organic AND vegan. Steamed Brusell spruouts for breakfast are good, and youre twins will love them. But you cant have diet Coke anymore. Switch to designer sparkling minral water like San Pellegrino, avialable by the case from Whole Foods. Love you, XOXO.

Jonny and Carissa said...

OMGOSH you haven't gone organic already?? gross. are you poor or something??
everyone knows the only cute way to go organic is to shop at whole foods and trader joes with their cute recycled tote bags cuz plastic is bad for the environment and you want everyone to know how eco-friendly you are.

[ps: jk. but seriously: buy local. buy fresh. know your farmer. and keep the country country]

GladysIcanbee said...

organic is a status symbol; it shows you have so much more (money/intelligence/social conshusness/environmentelly friendly) insight than the rest of us do. you can pull it off without sounding snobby.

Jessica said...

hmm, I think you could DEFINETELY do hippy chic!! I mean, you have the frownsmile power for all the haters who will balk at your blessed organicness... just be all "well, it's not easy, not everyone can chose this lifestyle." and organic clothes are WAY better than reglar ol clothes, I mean, anything eltse is practically shopping at walmart! bleck!!

Jessica said...

Umm.. you aren't organic already? How can you look down on all those frumps that buy regular fruit and veggies at, like, WalMart or something? Ew!

Ben & Emily said...

Organic is way cute! But the best is to be a walking contradiction about it. Make sure everyone knows that you ONLY shop organic, but never miss your daily Diet Coke. (and any other un organic habits you can't give up :) That way you make no sense at all and are just making sure you follow the trends and don't really care about organic anyway.

Tarnation said...

Kate plus 8 is organic. Duggars no. Nuf said.

I hope your organicness doesn't extend to that new "green burial" thing where you'll have your implants taken out since they aren't biodegradable. If you do that, you will not rise with ginormous nunga-nungas. Just sayin'.

Liz said...

Farmers Market!?! Gasp. Haven't you seen where the stars shop? At WHOLE FOODS. There is one even opening in SLC. I think you'll just have to make the drive. After all, if the stars of the world shop there, you need to as wel.

wow. so relate, TAMN. i've been considering this, too, since i became addicted to Jillian Michaels. Her book master your metabolism is like scripture. i haven't made the true conversion to organic (and believe me i roll my eyes at the granola tree huggers), but what jillian says totally makes sense. it's way healthier. but not EVERYTHING has to be organic. like the above comments, some stuff they just say it's organic so they can charge way more. you want to be trendy and lavish, sure, but not stupid. that's so not you. just sayin!

Ryan 'n' Joy said...

You have to have to have to go organic - its the only way to live- but make sure you buy it from Whole Foods or Good Earth and make sure you tell everyone you only eat organic- when you order at Rio tell them you want only organic veggies and stuff on your pork salad and you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO make your own organic baby food - its the absolute ONLY way your babes will know you love them
make sure you stock up on organic cookies candy bars and ice cream along with the diet coke - its way more healthy

The organic-buying granola image and the blonde-highlighted, escalade-driving image just don't mix.

Kelly Jasper said...

i thinks it's best to go VEGAN- that way if anyone accidentally offers you something with milk or eggs in it you can freak out on them and pout until everyone tiptoes around you regarding food...and harming animals causes way more guilt!

Laura said...

Duh, TAMN, your making this waaaay to hard again. Totes just act like your going organic, right? Like, go to the farmers market and buy fresh fruits and vegetables and talk about how difficult it is to find stuff in seasun and how sad it is that other mommies put bad chemichuls in their precious babies. And put out bowls of the farmers market fruits and veggies, maybe even use them (after much washings, natch), but still buy normal stuff. For reals, don't make it hard.

Ariel said...

Don't do it! Going organic will just make you seem waaaaay high mantinence and unrelatible. You are so cute just the way you are.

Benson & Sarah Garner said...

oh tamn. I can't believe you don't know this yet... (frownsmile) You have to TALK about how important orgainic but you don't really have to BUY organic food. Just do it now and then and talk about it A LOT when you do. Totally the best of both worlds - like Hanna Montana or soemthing!!

Melissa C said...

Another option you could do would be to shop at an expensive local grocery store. I am not in Zion, so I unfortunately don't have a specific store to tell you (here in the midwest, we have some cute General Stores and smaller chain groceries only in this area), but I am sure you have some quaint expensive grocer with cute shopping bags that you can shop at that screams you have money. Who cares if the food is really any better? It is more expensive, so it has to be, right?

I work at Café Rio (the actue accent is soooo much cuter), and if a TAMN character asked for organic veggies on her 1/8 of a pork salad, I would never stop laughing!

Oh -weare past organic and vegan - the cool think is gluten and carb free - which is perfect for you since you don't eat that crap anyway!

TaLaisa said...

Didn't you know you can just peel the organic stickers off the other stuff and put it on your (non-organic) produce after you pay. The veggies and fruits totally become organic by the power of suggestion (aka: the secret). Totes good for ya and you still have extra grocery money to spend on a gazillion of those watchband bracelet thingy's you wanted me to custom make for every single outfit you own.

Melinda said...

Ew, don't go organic. They don't use pestisides, so you might eat a bug. That's way grosser than chemicals!

Personally, I avoid the organic fad because I am not trendy, and eat only inorganic food, like cement chunks. Despite what everyone says, it is way harder and more expensive to find inorganic food than organic food.

Renny said...

This is a really difficult q TAMN. I live in Vermont, land of organic, and so part of me is like, "yeah all for it!" because it is basically un American to not save the planet by not buying in bulk, and you've gotta totally avoid the evil plastic. And you've gotta be super patriotic to be righteous so you've gotta do it.
BUT on the other hand its like pushing some kinda liberal agenda, like you agree with Al Gore or something, and Mormons aren't allowed to be anything but conservative, which I'm pretty sure politically means that you are modest in your dress and stuff right?
So yeah, super tough sitch.
Buy your stuff in season, and make sure its hormone free or else you'll get a mustache, but now you have to remember that corporations are people too, and we have to love everyone, so its okay if you try and buy organic stuff at like Costco and stuff.
Just make sure you tell people you're doing it cause of the Word of Wisdom, because otherwise people will think you aren't Republican.

Allison Harris said...

Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, DO NOT ask JJWT what he thinks you guys should do. I mean, yeah, he's the one who works and manages the family finances, and he is your quote on quote "equal partner", but he's STILL a dude. Dudes don't know ANYTHING about cute and trendy stuff, and they most def can't make decisions as to what they and their children should eat! That's why we still buy their clothes and pack their lunches for them! Remember?

McKinley said...

Go Organic, only shop at farmer's market, and you will not be a weird granola but a darling cute concerning mother and wife!

I mean who wants their kids to be addicted to manufactured chemically advanced ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup? Plus eating organic will help prevent some cancers and diseases. This is just one more step to making you more perfect. And I will in deed hate myself more when I am around you! ;)

Charity said...

Buying organic stuff like chicken nuggets, and individual packaged snacks is totally green, which is so IN now!!! Save the chemicals for your hair!! Continue to drive your family around in your Escalade, even though you COULD still fit in a fuel efficient sedan. Keep buying new clothes and shoes every season, I mean every week. Keep striving for that McMansion the size of Texas, which will use more energy than the state of Texas, but will totally let your light shine for others to see how much you care about the Earth!!

Jeannie said...

Oh TAMN it's adorable you don't know this.

You buy a super cute waterbottle that says something like, organic is totally orgasmic. That makes people THINK you eat organic, and that's all you need. I mean, Jon and Kate ate organically and look what happened to them? You don't actually eat organic food, I mean gross. It's like grown with poop or something.

Brooke said...

Going organic is great so long as it is absolutely ADORABLE and has nothing to do with being "green." Getting milk delivered by Winder Farms and insisting your children wear only Hanna Andersson? GOOD. Twisty uggo lightbulbs and shrimpy little hybrid cars? BAD.

So be careful -- or next thing you know, you'll find yourself camping in a tent instead of a condo (horrors!).

Keri Forsyth said...

Definetly go organic to protect your babies. Here are some great websites to also educate you on your big choice, because you will also want to sound smart about all of this organic business. I would start here www.ewg.org. Then grab all of your beauty products and look them up at www.cosmeticdatabase.com. I was shocked to discover that the waterbabies sunblock I was using was receiving a 9 out 10 (with 10 being the most hazardous).

This is a wonderful video about protecting our prescious children from their environment.

DEF go organic. But vegan is pretty much against the WoW, bc it says not just eat meat in winter and stuff, which basicly means to eat meat all year long. So vegans are pretty much ignoring the D&C. Not judging JUST SAYING. But organic is the right thing. It's the best kind of food. And also sometimes it tastes yummier. And organic makeup is good too, but whats even better is CRUELTY FREE or AGAINST ANIMAL testing{it'll say it in caps like that so everyone will know} bc then ppl will know how socially conscience you are and then they will feel extra guilty bc there makeup basicaly killed a bunny. And also there children will get sick. Not that your babies will ever get sick, but if you don't use organic and they get sick then it will be ALL YOUR FAULT. just fyi-ing you.
