soooo greatful I'm not her

You guys, I have a ton of new clean, sharp, darling design ideas I want to blog bad but first gotta tell you something that broke my dainty heart right in half today! At playgroup today with the ward slash neighborhood {same thing} it was just like usual, us long-haired hotties in one corner, the girls with stacked bobs in the other, divided into teams of salon pedis and DYI pedis as we chatted about our kids while they ran a muck, when out of nowhere I realized the saddest thing. This cute girl in our cultasack who OTHERWISE seems super normal, she has an SUV, professional hubby, Anthro bowls, you know, normal, well guess what I found out about her?

Warning: You'll probably bawl and hold your's a little tighter.

Ready?

She doesn't have a DSLR.

Seriously. Guys, this poor gal is using a point and shoot. In 2010. She deserves a kudo just for getting out of bed in the morning! Maybe I'd get a better calling if people saw that I put together a 5K or something for her?

You should put a button on your blog to donate to her. It's charity. It totally works.

HOLD ON!!!! For your photog "business" to be legit, someone has to be a customer (ask JJWT about capitolism and markets and stuff, I'll bet he knows). Step 1: Ask to see her scrapbook and bring yours. PRetend this is a kindly meant activity. She will see instantly how terrible her photos are

Step 2: When she asks your secret DO NOT ADMIT IT IS ALL PHOTOSHOP AND EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT. Pretend it has to do with talent.

Step 3: Sell her on your sepia tinted with absurdly bright blue eyes on people photos and offer a "discounted" photo session.

VWALA! Business for you, spending money for you, bragging rights for you, service to her! WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!!!

A PAS?? I forgot those existed!!! Oh, poor doll. You could have a bake sale for her and raise some money. Your so thoughful!!!

Oh no! That is so sad. Maybe the ward could help them out.

TAMN, please don't ever cut your hair into mom hair. What would JJWT think?

I have a new favorite word - cultasack. Followed closely by tubbalardy of course!

I don't have a DSLR either and sometimes I DON'T get out of bed in the morning. I mean, if you don't have boatloads of fancy possessions what is the point in living?

5k?

Cultasack is brilliant.

Please post something about how you never take your camera off auto. I'm taking a photography class right now so I can judge everyone who's not on manual.

Cultasack BWAHAHAHA!!!! You just made my day.

What do you call a spec home street in (insert predominantly Mormon Utah Valley/Wasatch Front community of choice) ? A cultasac! Alright, stay calm and put put your sassy scripture totes and diaper bags down gently. I could hardly help myself this time. Nice opening.

How does she plan on starting a photog business with a P&S?!?! I mean, you're NO ONE if you don't have a photog biz. So sad...

That just goes to show that the people who look the most blessed are hiding some of the worst trials.

Yeah we don't have a DSLR either... we feel lost without one... like we don't stack up with the Jones's.

LOL, too funny. Great visual -- the tract houses of the ward/neighborhood {same thing} grouped around the "cultasack." You nailed it ! Love you, XOXO

I thought you said "stacked boobs" and was concerned you weren't in their group. whew.

I don't know what a DSLR is- enlighten us out here in the mission field! Indiana is so far from the bubble.

Shut the front door! I find it totally sadder that you have friends who do DIY pedis.... ew.

No offense, but I'm kinda judging your inner circle right now.

Short hair is more expensive than long hair ... I'm just saying. When my hair was long I hardly ever spent money on it ... maybe once every couple of months to get it colored or something. With it short I'm paying $50 a month for haircuts plus extra for product because short hair can't be with out it plus if I want it highlighted I have to do that everytime I get it cut!! .... so um, just something for you to think about TAMN.

Oh my heck, I don't even know what a DSLR is, but now I NEED one to validate myself! :)

DSLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex

In other words, an expensive camera :-)

Man, TAMN, thanks for pointing out my shortcomings in front of everyone.

i feel sooooo silly, but i only get spa pedis and i didnt know that there was another option. what the heck is a DYI pedi?

Maybe she wants sympathy from you, and that is why she told her secret trial. At your nest cultasac party on pioneer day, have her bring her camera, and like axidently break it somehow so she will be forced out of the dark ages.

Last time I was at play group I let it slip that my nearly 4-year-old son isn't potty trained yet. I even accidentally said "toilet trained" instead of "potty trained" which made it sound even more serious and dysfunctional. I don't know why I can't learn to be more self-protective and covert about my parenting failures. (At least now I'll know to pretend I left my DSLR at home.)

Lesa -

You have it all wrong. TAMN doesn't have cheap long hair that saves her husband's money. She does not look like a Pioneer.

She has her hair straightened so it curls easier, highlighted five or six times, colored, etc.

The real point of long hair isn't to save money. It's to try and prove that deep down inside you will always stay pure and immature.

Here is your perfect opportunity! Yes, absolutely plan a 5k for her and invite Tubbalardy to run. Your cute Cultasack friend can do the before and after pics--you know before with her point and shoot, after with her DSLR! And the DIY pedis...ugh. I can picture those callouses now. not to be judgmental or anything, just sayinnn

I'm sitting here cryin my eyes out. How is she EVER going to start her own phot-og biz? How sad!

I also thought you typed "Stacked Boobs". I'm thinking. What is that supposed to even mean? They kinda' sound like a nice thing to have. :)

Can you make sure you include me as a recipient of your 5K funrun funds for a DSLR? I sound exactly like your friend. You could have my way important calling if you did I am sure (hopefully they won't release me upon reading this). I promise I won't win the race on purpose- you can win. We had to borrow my parents DSLR for my last race to take pics, and boy did they come out nice. My blog is going to be all weird now since some of the pics are really good and the rest are not.

I had to google DSLR to find out what it was. Good thing I don't live in Utah - I'd be totally pitied. Plus, no kids and over 30. They probably wouldn't even let me cross the border to be honest. Thank goodness I can live vicariously through you and your blessed life!

What in the world is a DSLR? And stacked bobs versus long hair in the other corner? HAAAA. My sisters call it the pre-menopause do'

Sarah Schulz said...

So...if someone does a DIY pedi and then gets a cute polish change can you tell the difference? 'Cuz I totally just did that. But you should throw ME a 5K because I usually have unpainted toenails and no pedi. Think about my suffering, TAMN. What's higher up on the service chain? Pedis or DSLR??

i am laughing as i realize my sad reality of having recently switched from the long-haired corner to the stacked bobs corner. i should have thought this through!
