i do it bc i WANT to not bc i HAVE to

way tired from daylite savings but just have to blog that i LOOOOVE to publicize pics of my BARGAINS right next to stuff that cost a TON!!!!

For example, IT IS SO CUTE OF ME I FOUND
THIS GORGEOUS DESK/TABLE/CHAIR IN INCREDIBLE CONDITION
AT THE DI/ON THE SIDE OF THE STREET/IN A DUMPSTER and then DECORATED THE CRAP OUT OF IT! I had to buy a ton of sanding stuff then some oober pricey paint and then added a bunch of Anthro knobs that cost a small fortune each plus I needed a cute new work apron and sassy hairclip, soooo my bargain project cost a grand but SOMEHOW IT'S STILL A BARGAIN SO IT'S CUTE OF ME!!!

doesn't it literally just scream "TAMN!"!??

Oh my crud! Using the term 'LITERALLY' WHEN YOU MEAN 'FIGURATIVELY' IS THE EPITOME of TAMN! Soooo CUTE OF THEE!

Oh my crud! Using the term "literally" instead of "figuratively" is the EPITOME OF TAMN! Soooooo cute of thee!

Where's the picture? It doesn't count if there isn't a picture...

Even though you spent all that money, it's still a bargain, cause no one else has one like it, and custom stuff costs like ten times what you spent. So, it's awesome. So cool! Except, that color you painted it....well, I guess it's okay, just a bit last season. Frownsmile!

Your so rite b/c its the journey and just think of the good your doing for the earth b/c you are recycling! Oh and make sure you dump your extra paint down the gutters b/c who is rilly going to know?

There is nothing more exciting than literally screaming furniture! It even makes *me* scream!

SuddenlySouthernCyndi said...

I must admit when I first saw the title of this one I thought sure you were referring to "adhering to Mormon rules". Because that would have been the perfect title. I'm just sayin'.

Allison said...

Definitely screamin' somethin'!

If you own something that is RILLY a bargain it kinda makes you poor and lame and college-y. Way to art it up!

Alright, TAMN, I'm getting tired of you stealing all my ideas. Seriously.

First I became a child photographer and photoshopped kids eyes until they look like space aliens. Then you copied me.

Then I used fake names for my kids on my blog. You copied that, too.

NOW you are refurbishing crap from thrift stores and hello... I *just* started doing that as well. You're freaking me out a little, I've got to be honest.

If you go sugar-free and start posting fat pictures of yourself here, I will KNOW that you are ripping off my blog. And I will sue you for royalties. Oh, and I'll tell Lynzii (I'm her token fat friend) that you are a total copycat and can't come up with any ideas on your own.

And then we'll leave a flaming bag of turd on your porch. I know that is not very Christ-like, but a girl has got to protect her intellectual property. I'm serious. Don't make me cut you.

(I mean that in a tough-loving way.)

Wow! You found that at The Deseret Industries? I never find anything good there. It must have been a blessing for not hiding your talent under a bushel.

Again, such an example! What cute saying are you vinylizing to go above this ubercute bargain?

Unknown said...

So tru! I hope you make your own craft blog!!! (And a photography one, and a cooking one, etc, etc, etc!)

P.S. - I love how you painted it perfectly then spent hours sanding it down to look worn - so clever!!! It sure does look distressed!

TAMN, you really need to start another blog on how to save money, like "frugal and fabulous". You are SO good at that!

You must not have enough facebook friends or you would have seen the Eclipse trailer and posted it on your blog by now. *frownsmile*

Oh WOW TAMN!

That is proof that it absolutely not at all worth it for you to work. Don't listen to those sad career mothers who mutter under their breaths when you bear your testimony about your ginormous debt.

If staying at home gives you the freedom of saving, saving, saving all day while you're shopping, you would be just throwing money away if you had an income.

Those working moms (not just sad, wicked!) who aren't in the stores all day just don't get it.

Count your blessings TAMN because when your hubs is out of school and you are paying back the student loans, you'll be scrounging more than old nightstands out of the trash.

Or are you one of THOSE families, that is having school paid for out of some rich relatives pocket yet you're on government welfare so there will be NO student loan repayment?

Oh. I'm guilty of this. I'm hanging my head in shame, while admiring my beautifully refurbished DI furniture out of the corner of my eyes.

Girl, you hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD with this post.

Quite possibly your best and most brilliant post since the Holocaust Museum post. Simply amazingly dead on.

And while we're on the subject of the classic Utah-esque, Mormon Stay at Home Mommy who went to BYU to get a MRS degree, I have to say the ONLY thing you missed in this excellent post is the use of the word, "thrifting" to describe:
1. Going to D.I./taking your super rich mother-in-law's "garbage" off her hands ...
2. Spending a fortune on revamping it ...
3. Writing a blog on it AND being a "guest blogger" on a friend's site (you know, as to further push the idea to people that you're the next trendy "The Pioneer Woman") ...
4. All in order to show your friends (and followers who are also, coincidentally, incredibly obsessed with overusing the terms "super cute" and "our little family") that you braved the less than savory crowds at a D.I.

"Thrifting" -- one of the worst words ever produced by the Mormon Mommy Bloggers.

Again, well done.

Ooooh! Garage sale-ing season is coming up, too! Think of all the random useless pieces of furniture that have the potential to scream TAMN!

You ARE cute! I think I saw you at the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point the other day. You were with three or four other women, all skinny with expensive haircuts, each pushing a huge stroller, frequently ramming into the backs of my legs, without an apology. Was it you? Tall shoes, shiny lips, smart phones shoved into the back pockets of tightly fitting jeans, giant slouchy purses, a marked failure to use "inside voices," and a general sense of entitlement based on number of kids and size of SUV?

Perhaps you saw me, too. I was the one who sighed heavily as I shoved past you at the entrance of the final hands-on display. I wasn't taking hundreds of digital photos, or talking baby talk, or squealing with delight, or acting as if I owned the place. I'm SURE you remember me...I was the who Took The Lord's Name in Vain when your child tossed sand in my child's face, and you laughed, and kept snapping photos.

My favorite Tamnism: "decorated the crap out of it"

So adorably classy!

Puhlease, you should be entering the next Gerber baby contest. If ur kids are super-cute enough, it's super-ok to exploit them.
Then you'll have enough to re-do ur intire craft room!!

Don't forget an off angle photo of your creation, which you have photoshopped the crap out of and put a little note

*please excuse the AWFUL photo, it was taken with my iphone!

Mary--TAMN totally did the no sugar thing like a year ago. You're all behind the times and stuff.

@mary
Do you really think your blog is so unique and fantastic that TAMN is actually stealing from you. I think I've read 100 blogs this week that sounded just like this. Maybe you're stealing from TAMN. Have you ever thought of it that way?

Don't make me cut you!

i just want to see pictures of the step-by step process with a million HUGE blown UP pictures of the final product.

I agree with whats-her-bucket. Now you can be a guest blogger elsewhere that you've conquered the thrifty purchase/anthro- makeover.

I'm glad you're so in touch with what's going on. Post is hilarious and so true.

I sense some animosity coming from you. Like most posts are mimicking cliches you see on other blogs, but with this one you have some sort of personal vendetta.
Did you try to refurbish something and fail?
Its okay. Try try again.

I live so far from Utah Mommy-ville, but I can still see this happening! Fun read.
